Notes from MAC Membership Meeting
8/27/08
Call to Order 7:32
16 members attending including board members; Steve B, Dave P, Mark Y, Phil E, Steve G, Josh K, and Larry S.
President Report – None
VP Report(Steve G) – Nothing to report
Treasurer Report(Larry S) – Club is in sound financial shape even with advance payments made to Canterbury. Insurance for MOWOG 6 and T&T2 have been sent.
Current Membership 199
Last Year Membership 215
Paul W. Fund is at $2600
Steve G. – Proceeds from Pat W. BBQ at Milwaukee donated to PW Fund, amount being $130.00.
Secretary Report(Larry S) – Would like to have a motion to approve the minutes of the July meeting. Jody B. made such motion, 2nd by Josh K., motion carried.
Competition(Steve G) –
MOWOG 5(Larry S) – Event went well for my first event as EM, were able to get 6 runs in. NO shows and walk ups caused an unbalanced grid which caused a grid redo.
Steve G – Call for run group change ASAP if this occurs again.
Jody B - Suggestion for future events at DCTC to split SI group so as to not have as many new people working the course at one time.
MOWOG 6(Josh K) – Event went well, 8 timed runs plus fun runs. One timing glitch during the day was resolved quickly. Split run groups was a success.
9/7 Test & Tune (Steve G) – Pre-nationals flavor to this event. 2 courses 35 to 40 seconds, Advanced driver instruction.
9/28 CVSCC(Steve G) - Event is going to be able to be held at the large lot by the school. Steve will be designing a nationals type course.
Dave P. – Will be checking with his Uncle to see if his car museum will be available after the event for us to stop by and have a root beer float.
Timing & Scoring – Test Equipment is currently being evaluated by Matt De.
Equipment(Josh K) – Bad cable tossed at MOWOG 6. Still need to do a full review of all out equipment.
Safety(Mark Y) – Reinforce taking first run at a slightly easier pace especially at DCTC.
Perhaps have SI group work first to see how the course is playing out.
Possible use of split run groups at DCTC
Registration(Jody B) – New checklist sign up sheets are working well.
There will only be 4 corners at all upcoming events putting more cone pickers per station.
Suggestion to close registration 15 minutes earlier or limit it to 45 minutes in length due to how smooth it has been running.
Tech – No Issues
Equipment(Josh K) Truck brakes and steering stabilizer have been replaced.
Truck reorg will be handled by Josh and Mark Y.
Old Business:
-Paul W. Teen Driving Event ( Mike S, Dave P)
Event to be held October 12th.
Had discussions with the BMW club about their classes.
Curriculum has been set up for both classroom and on course, ½ time in class ½ time on course, lessons will revolve around 4 keys; Basics, Physics, Mental and putting it all together.
Recommend to limit entrants at our first event. ( 20 Students)
Classroom sessions to be held in locker room as weather protection.
Motion by Dave P to put fee at $20, 2nd by Phil E. Motion carried.
For first event the teen must be referred by a club member.
MAC will pay for lunch.
There will also be an additional donation line on the registration.
- MAC mission statement has been tabled at his point in time.
New Business:
- Mark Y. – Lakeville HS parking lot, possible location for future teen driving schools.
- Steve G. – Same location has been locked in for awards banquet.
- Charles K. – Ladies No Pressure Driving Event
Opportunity for spouses of members
A way to ease their way into the sport
Volunteer Instructors
15 minute introduction for newbies
Rides with and without instructor, instructor to drive car as well.
Possibility of using Fun Run time after MOWOG 9
There was major discussion on this proposal by members in attendance, many viewed as a good idea to help initiate people into the sport that might not use some of the other avenues that we provide. If both spouses were attending it might help in building the core volunteer group of the club. Being part of an existing event would take a lot of pressure and cost off of running something separate. There are some that feel they would not want to lose any of their seat time at an event even if it is during fun run time to something like this. Doing the event at T&T was considered the best possibility as there are two courses running so losing one for an hour would not be a hindrance. It was felt that the last T&T of this year would be too difficult to pull this off.
The support for the idea is strong and will be discussed in the off season as to how to best implement next year. Please forward any thoughts or suggestions you may have on this idea to any of the board members.
