Well, who's planning on running SM2 this year? I'm hoping that there will be enough people to prevent bumping.

Kit, are you planning on a few events this year?

yep, i'll be SM2.. I'm still debating if I'm gonna cough up for a new set of wheels/tires to be competitive against your 13" combo. Otherwise my only upgrade is a disconnected rear sway.

i'm looking for a 15x8 setup, so i can use it for autox and track.

I'll bet you can get the Mosley's in their MR2 Turbo and Damian in his RX7 to play with you in SM2. There often aren't many cars running in ASP anyway.

13s are less then ideal for higher power levels. I only went with them because the price was so right, and I had the money at the time. I also figured that if they didn't work, one of the CSP'ers around here might be interested in them.

15x8? Are you going to add flares? Will an 8" fit under a miata?

I'm also looking at 15's but something inexpensive like the Heliums or C8s.

I'd love SSR comps or even Enkei RPF1s, but I just can justify the cost at the moment.

You can count me in.

I will be ASP legal until I break down and install my boost controller, but I plan to run SM2 either way. I will be running Kuhmo MX's and hope they are as good as the Falken's on my brothers Datsun.

If I read the rules right, we can also hope for that punk in the ugly old red Corvette
to show up for an event. God help us all then.

I read on miata.net that the 15x8 K1s can rub on total opposite lock. I haven't jumped into it yet since I want to make sure that will work with not too much effort. Otherwise, i'll go with a 15x7. Don't know which tires yet, probably RA-1s or V700.

Steve, i think the red vette can definitely go SM2. Hard to beat the rubber that you can slap in a vette. So far that has been the toughest thing to deal with SM2 miatas i.e., can't fit wide enough tires.

Sure you can, if you're willing to cut some metal! Wanna borrow some tin snips?

Will I be legal (and welcomed) in SM2?

Here are the stats:

1965 Factory Five Racing Roadster replica
2300lbs
358 cu in Ford Windsor

It has crappy tires, no suspension tuning (yet) and a driver that's not used to torque (what's *that*?)

Mike,

Your car isn't legal for SM2, as all cars need to be legal in a Street Prepared class to be eligible for SM2, which you car isn't.

A Prepared is the right class for your car. There are quite a few FFR's running very competitively in AP nationally.

Note - The SCCA is in the process of revising the Class Bumping Rules for SM & SM2, by moving them out of the Street Prepared Category and putting them under the Prepared Category as follows: SM==>SM2==>AP. This means that if there aren't enough SM2 cars to make a complete class, you'll likely end up running with them anyway. Met Council rules will be updated to reflect this change, once it occurs.

Mike,

There is another option I forgot about - if your car presently has street tires on it, you could run the PAXed Street Tire Class. There will be plenty of competition there this year.

Otherwise, you can battle Phil's Lotus & the 'vettes in Prepared.

I don't mind mixing it up with Phil and the Vettes. I have fun even when I finish DFL.

I am on crappy street tires, so maybe I'll try both classes for fun. (at different events, of course!)

Thanks for the info!
Mike
