View Full Version : Clarify Stock Rules Plz
I'm looking at upgrading my brakes slightly and want to know if it will bump me out of D stock. I'm planning on changing to a different brake pad and also go with braided SS brake lines. I know the pads are alright, but I'm not as clear on the brake lines. Is it only ok if my car is older than a 1992? I know I should be able to figure this out myself, but it just isn't working. Also, if that does bump me out of DST, where do I land?
Thanks,
Joe

Aftermarket stainless steel brake lines are only legal in stock if your car was manufactured before model year 1992.
If you do install them, you will move to STX.

Joe,
What kind of car do you drive? Stainless brake lines would bump you to STS or STX, depending on the car.

-SteveHis avatar looks like a Mazdaspeed Protege (which is a D Stock car, so it makes sense). I guess it's STX and not STS, my bad.
Joe stainless brake lines aren't necessary in a autox or a lapping car. just change the brake fluid a couple of times a year and upgrade your pads. This will impact your performance much more than stainless lines. Why get bumped to a higher class just for a "wow" factor.

Thanks for clearing that up...sorry I wasn't clearer on what type of car I drive...right on with the MazdaSpeed. Also, thanks for the advice on the brake lines. Not getting them saves me $100 too...so all the more reason not to.
