Bill,
A2 VW's are to slow for that big track. I hope you

Actually, my old friend Leon Carter took first place in the SCCA IT endurance race there with his 1.8 liter `84 GTI a couple years ago. He was up against 280Zs, Civic SIs, INTEGRAS, and other hot hatchs. Da boy is talented.
I may be slow in the long straight, but you better not be in front of me in the turns.
1.8T Golf...? What a pig

On the AARRF website they mention a class/braking exercises for novices/semi-experienced drivers... You guys have any idea what is meant by "semi-experienced"? I have been to two AARRF events as well as two other track events at MHSC, how much would I have to gain from going through their "class"?
My RX-7 will be there... partly cloudy and 79 degrees, should be a perfect day.

Ive never done it, but it sounds pretty cool and it never hurts to get some more experienced input on your driving. I personally don't think I'd lose out by taking either the class or running with the expeirienced drivers. Contact Suburban Corvettes for more input to your question before they "Head up north!"

I will just ask someone when I get up there. I think I probably will take their class... according to their proposed schedule, there is only about 30 minutes difference in on-track time between the class students and the "experienced" driver crew.
I have run at St Cloud in the rain... my street tires were a touch more slippery, but it was a great learning experience.

BIR was awesome, as expected. A big thank you from me to AARRF for organizing this event!
The Vette guys mentioned they were planning another session sometime in September? Anyone happen to get more information?

September 11th...I don't what the fee is yet
Ryan, did you take the class? I did and realized after 10 mins I would have been fine running in the experienced group. Being that most of us already AARRF, we knew about car control and a parade lap would have sufficed. Threshold braking exercise?! Arrgh, Lets get out there! Other than that, I really enjoyed myself and Suburban Corvette people were cool. Id definately go back. I heard AARRF would post our lap times on their site if you didn't get a print out. I didn't.
I could hold a steady 110 mph though turn 1... Thats all my 1.8 would do with the pedal mashed down. The highlight of the day was riding shotgun in the prepared `67 Camero w/ 396 V8... Manuel steering, street tires and youre chasing down a Corvette in turns 6,7, 8,9... talk about a RUSH!!!!!!! I'll never forget that.

Agreed. I could have done with a parade lap or two with an experienced driver to explain some aspects of the course, but that's all I really needed. The threshold braking exercise was a waste of time. It might have been useful if there was any spot on the course where we had to brake all the way down from 60 mph. In order to be more useful they should have just had one set of cones way down at the end of the road. Maybe we could have gotten a little more speed before hitting the brakes. I would have gotten more out of that.
By the end of the day I was holding around 120 mph through turn 1. I was still letting up considerably, I just couldn't convince myself that it was safe to try and hold @ 135 into that turn. Looking back on it, perhaps asking for a ride with one of the faster Vette guys would have cured my fears. Or that blue Viper... yum.
Put up another message if you manage to get more details on the Sept 11th event. I could definately do that again.

Great time even though I went through 2 brand new sets of brake pads. I'll be there in September!

My pads hardly wore at all.. I run "Brakeman" carbon metallic pads all the way round and didn't even find dust on my rims. I put 105 track miles on them wed.
Do you trail brake?
