Ok, here is my story of woe.

My first run I pulled a 26.5 with an index of 25.4. I new I left a ton of time out there and when I checked in the lady said I didn't have to wait an hour... Well all pumped up I figured I would run it again before there was a faster index. The moment I scanned in at the helmet stage the announcer started talking about me and that I was getting ready again. She was following my progress letting everyone know what car I was getting into and that they should all come and watch cuz I am only .5sec away from the lead and blah blah blah. I should have turned my helmet in then. I was so pumped up and not thinking anymore. I go blasting down into the sweeper (where I really slowed down in my last run) and went to swing it out wide with a ton of speed...that was when I realized no one else had done that all day...in fact they had all been keeping it tight to the inside (yes the slower line). Well, needless to say I pushed it out really really bad and cam in with a 27.

After ten years of this sport my weakest spot is the mental state you must be in and with all the hype from the announcer and everyone that was looking at this guy to show them that the index time is attainable, I cracked. I want a third run!!!

Whine mode off. :)

I did have a great time and only wish that I didn't have to wait a year.

When I left on Saturday at around 2:00 I was in first... I am very happy to see that I am in the top 10, I was expecting more like the top 50. Everyone driving the same car sure makes it a different experience than a normal autocross.

I showed up at Rev-It-Up on Saturday at 530 PM with NO INTENTION of actually running the event. My first few days as a dad have been incredible, yet very sleep depriving :oneeye: and time consuming. Even the test drive I had planned at the Mazda dealership fell to the wayside in all the commotion.

I showed up just to see how everyone ELSE was doing, but as it turns out, Adam convinced me to ask the organisers to allow me to run anyway...

...And they did! In spite of NOT having done either the chalk talk or the practice exercizes, they let me squeeze in two consecutive runs just as the event was closing down for the day.

As I got into the car, the instructor looked down at my sandals and said "I can see you brought your racing shoes with you"

"I'll just take them off" I replied back.

As he ushered me into the car he says "Ok...I'll pretend I didn't hear you say that"

My first run I braked too hard for the box after the initial slalom, while in the second run I ran into the marbles on the sweeper just as Jeremy did.

Final score 601 (15th). No fanfare, No interviews, No nothing. Just a big smile on my face.

Congrats to Eric for earning top Minnesotan (and MAC) honors. Eric, I know EXACTLY how you feel about your second place finish ;)

I didn't place in top 50...or top 100 (although my twin brother placed 39th, what does that say?), but it was fun..
Congrats Eric, Pat & Nick!

I don't remember exactly what sunday were. I do remember a 24.7, 25.2, 25.4... Which was scary because Jason slowed down as the day warmed/dried up. Thats why I did my runs back-to-back. I was afraid they would send him out again, being that the last time he went the ground was still damp and the sun still poking through some heavy haze.

I did enjoy the day very much! (would have liked less fanfare!)

Awesome to see the many familiar names on the leader board. Eric, Dave, Nick, Jeremy, Randy...excellent top 10 showings! (Not to leave anyone out...I just listed the top 10) Eric...tell me my Novice school is the reason your getting so fast now! Nice job! I don't know John Ma, but I did see some pretty big Milwaukee Region names.

I'm pretty bummed about my score. In Chicago last year, I managed a 710 on my first run. My excuse is I think I backed it down too much. I was *very* afraid of coning! I coned out last year, and didn't want a repeat, so I told myself to run a little more carefully. A little too carefull as it turned out. (But I did NOT hit a cone!!) :) I was too cautious and threw the anchor out on the far turnaround where some people were going too wide. Pretty much parked it and lost my momentum. The brakes are pretty darn good on that little car! That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Still had fun though!

Good job MAC drivers, but we've got to get a representative to Nationals next time! (Will there be a new car to promote next year?)
My story is similar- i was talking with Pat and we figured we'd go at 80% to avoid cones- which was pretty good for our first run (#3 for Pat, #4 for me). This was too low to start.
I cranked it up on the second run and I missed the double apex exit of the sweeper BADLY, hitting the marbles and maybe even crankin on the ABS for awhile. Nonetheless, as I crossed the finish line, I saw a GREAT time! Unfortunately, that was Pat's time. Crap. I added about 0.3 onto his, so I still did take off significant time! But in the mean time, Randy Williams had run, so at this point, I had a much improved run and still dropped a spot to 5. Ugh.
I think that if I nailed the sweeper exit, maybe the time would've been good for around 2-3 place, but definitely not enough to unseat first place John Ma.
Apparently, he's from the West Coast area (Idaho), and has been autocrossing for awhile, and newly transplanted to Madison. So it isn't some fluke.

It helped tremendously to watch the pro drive and see that he did not brake until entering the sweeper. Had I not seen that, I'd have braked for the box outside the first slalom and gone real slow.

The car's brakes are phenomenal. It doesn't rotate like the 6, but it's a nice tight car.

well OK my turn!(head down tail draggin excuse)
I did run faster on my 2nd run but tagged the last offset cone.
BUT my time still would not have been fast enough to unseat Eric(at that time) from the top.So my 1st run time was it.
I would like everyone to take notice of Dave Bahls awesome time on his 2nd run!Got himself a 4th overall! He also hasn't run a single event yet this year,so he had no warmup.
He's an often overlooked contender who can put down a winning run at any given event!
Congrats to all the folks who gave it up ,and put it out there for all to see.this may have been called the Mazda Challenge, but was also (for bragging rights)the MAC CLUB SPEC CAR CHALLENGE too.

I think that says that we both improved over last year. I went up 259 spots and you went up 209 spots from last year. That was our goal right?

And speaking of improving.....I looked up last years results and John Ma was there. He finished in the 1,426nd spot with 249 points. Wow, maybe the cones got the best of him in 2003.

Super Sub Dave is the man!!!

The guy kicked some serious butt in the kart league last winter and more importantly is a fun guy to be around. Randy, drag him out to some events so you two can box for the PAX lead.

The one thing I am still thinking about is:

Why Jason kept getting slower as the day moved on?
-Did he use a dialed in car in the AM?
-Was it the Falkens?

I too am curious as to why Jason slowed as the day progressed.

I am also curious as to why the mosleys and Dave bahl put them down in the "club" league. You guys are pros all the way.

Dave you really need to get a ride or bum one!!!

See you all next event

I talked to Jim Ourand a little about that and he gave me a couple ideas. First, Jason thought the cars were "crisper" in the morning (according to Jim), meaning the temps helped the power. Second, the Azenis tires do get a little greasy with temps. Although they didn't appear to be smokin' hot, they were constantly being run at the upper part of their temp range. Last, I think the lot was kind of gritty. The line was not the cleanest where Jason was driving, and that got worse during the day. Either way, if you got a chance to see him drive, you couldn't help but be amazed at how fluid he is. Fantastic driver!

Dave...what a Cinderella story! Must have been the squinty eye thing! Nice run!

I competed as a competitor sat morning and got around 460 some points.

I then worked both days after that and got to run for free sunday morning since I was working, and my score jumped up to 586 putting me in first place of all the workers winning me an xbox game:dancin:

the car felt a bit quicker although more prone to loosing the backend IMO when we ran the engines COLD and tires ambient temp.

the nice thing about being in the first run group on Sat. is that I got to see my name on
the leaderboard at least for a while. When I left I was 5th in the Pro class and I think
8th or 9th overall but plummeted after the warmer, more awake drivers took the field.

I finished 94th overall in the Pro class (I did say plummeted, didn't I?) :barf:

This was my first Rev-It-Up, now I have an idea what to expect.

I didn't do so well. With only two runs and not being able to walk the course, I just couldn't put myself in the proper mental state. I also got caught out on my second run because I forgot that I wasn't driving a Miata and I had to move the steering wheel quite a bit more than I had anticipated. Fortunately, I got there early enough to see my name at #1 in the club class for a little while, and I think I made it into 7th overall for a minute or two. I also set a record that lasted for quite a while at one of the practice areas. I really wish I had been more prepared mentally, though, because I know I should have been much faster.

At least I drove well in Milwaukee yesterday. :)
