The next MOWOG event is coming up in less than 2 weeks! MOWOG 4 will be held at All Right Parking in downtown Saint Paul. This event will be like a polar opposite of St. Cloud, due to site constraints. Given a bit more time to plan, the course should be a bit faster & longer than the event at All Right last year, but don't expect miracles. You can expect a fairly short, but fun & challenging course and lots of runs.

EVENT SCHEDULE
8:00 AM Registration & Tech. open
9:00 AM Registration Closes
9:15 AM Tech Closes
9:45 AM Drivers' Meeting
10:00 AM Novice Course Walk
10:30 AM First timed runs

One important note - this event is being held on Saturday. In a break with past tradition, MAC is conducting some Saturday events this year, to provide a bit of variety.

See you there!

Event Master - MOWOG 4

p.s. For those wanting a full weekend of autocross action, there's an Iowa Region event in Waterloo on Sunday, June 20th.

I like the saturday autocrosses this year. Every time an AUtoX is on a sat I have a rallycross the enxt day so i only had to skip one event because they coincided:dancin:

if you want a closer race on sunday come to the corcoran racetrack in maple lake? a very nice rallycross course (really smooth, where they had the Ojibwe Rallyfest last year)

Saturdays work better for me anyway

Protege Menac - do you have any more info about that Sunday event you were talking about?

No one has posted a thread about the rallycross on www.specialstage.com yet so im not exactly sure.

But it will cost 30/25 bucks (for SCCA members) and we usually get a lot of runs (we usually have 20-40 people racing so some times we get 8 runs in a day, as well as like 3 free funruns)

It starts a bit later than autoX, i think reg closes around 10-11ish, ill post here once more info is given to us.

wow, the next 3 rallycrosses are at this park which is only 20 mins from bloomington (its in maple grove)

This lot is relatively new. I was just looking at the aerial photos. The upper lot was not there in June 2001. It's there in the overflight of April 2003.

Enter off Kellogg Boulevard (AKA East Third Street). The lot is up on top of a large retaining wall, directly under the Lafayette Bridge (AKA Highway 52).

I like Saturday autocrosses, too. Unfortunately, the June Sprints are the same weekend and the Sprints won.

The lot also has the best surface of any place else we have done an event
in the recent past. 2 questions:

-Can we paddock on the lower lot this year?

-Do you think we will get 9 runs again?

That would be neat...free's up some additional space up top for the course. I noticed the condition of the lot however was terrible. I wouldn't want to part down there unlkess it was cleaned up. Maybe something we can do someday?

We'll paddock on the upper lot. It's just not practical (or safe) to have cars driving up & down those ramps all day. Note: worker changeovers would be sheer hell with the paddock on the lower level. We'll still end up with a pretty decent course. It will be longer & faster than last year.

As for run count, it all depends on how many people show up for the event. Event operations should be pretty efficient, but if we get 100+ cars again, I don't think we can get in more than 6 official runs + fun runs.

If we get 70-80 entrants (which is possible, based on pre-registration numbers), we'll plan for 8 runs. :D

The course design is complete and ready to go. It should be a fun, challenging, relatively fast course that makes good use of the site.

We currently have 80 drivers pre-registered for the event, as of 06/17, with sufficient paddock space to handle 100. Advanced registration closes at midnight this Thursday, so don't wait too long!

One last caution - DON"T BE LATE! Registration will be closing at 9:00 AM SHARP. Many of our problems/delays in getting data properly loaded into the computer are a direct result of holding registration open late for stragglers. It's not going to happen this time, as we plan to get in lots of runs for those who show up on time. :D

Thanks for setting this event up! I'll be there along with my brother-in-law.
Do you have the course on paper or anything that you could scan in? Just curious.

You say the course is fast - does that mean there are some straight a ways, or it flows really well.

Will there still be helmets available for those of us who are still going into this like it's cold water, one toe at a time.

Pre-registration for MOWOG 4 is now closed. 89 driver pre-registered, which is excellent! Lots of pre-registrations makes the entire registration & event setup process run a LOT more smoothly.

The course map is on computer, so I'll print off a stack of maps and make them available at registration. Due to the long, narrow shape of the lot, it will be a little difficult to pick out details, but you'll at least be able to see the basic layout.

As for course speed, it will be as fast as we can safely make it, given the lot limitations. It should end up a bit faster than a typical Midway course, but slower than Valleyfair or St. Cloud. No long straightaways (that would be boring!), but the course should flow pretty well. There are a few places where the wrong driving line will cost you major time - as it should be. I'm NOT going to post the course map, but I'll give you one tidbit - make sure to bring your slalom skills to the event! ;)

As always, loaner helmets will be available in Staging.

Steve,

just out of curiosity, why did you close ore-registration when there were still 11 spots open? I thought the cap was 100.

thanks

Steve needs time to get the preregistration info downloaded, met council numbers assigned...
Usually the cutoff is midnight Friday, but thats for a Sunday event, this being a Saturday event it closed at midnight Thursday.

What Paul said. We need at least one day before the event to assign car numbers, get forms printed out, determine run groups, get data loaded on the timing computers, etc.

-Steve

p.s. Laggards can still register at the event - it will just cost $5 more. The cost of procrastination! ;)

that makes sense, I forgot about the Sat/Sun thing - not the event, just the paperwork.

thanks!

I contacted a photographer I met at a mountain bike race I helped organize in May and he said that he may be able to make it out there tomorrow to catch us in action. If I see him there, I'll try to introduce him to some of you, although, I pretty much only know Paul - of course, Steve M. now knows me :sarc .
