Per the message below, the SCCA is VERY close to having road racing events back at Brainerd, per the following message. The following Restricted Regional event is a trial that will determine whether additional events are held at Brainerd next year. Anyone who has a competition license and/or can help out as a worker is encouraged to participate. Minnesota NEEDS an active road racing program!

Subject: LOL at Brainerd

We have been told that BIR has been given a provisional sanction by
SCCA. We are going ahead with plans for a restricted regional as
support to the NASCAR and Viper Days event at BIR, August 20th -
22nd. Vintage is also on the schedule. Final inspection of the
track will occur ten days before this event, to make sure that the
changes required for the sanction have been made.

The time slots that we have been given will allow 2 or (maybe) 3 race
groups. One of those groups will be closed wheel (IT/GT/Alphabet
Soup). We are trying to figure out if there is enough support for an
open wheel race group (FF/FV/F500/FC/CSR/DSR/FA/FM) and are also
talking to Donnybrooke about including an SRF race group. The only
SCCA race nearby, that weekend, is a national at MidAmerica (MAM).

If there are any drivers reading this, we _really_ need feedback on
your attendance at the race and in which race group. We need to have
the race groups finalised by next week at the latest. No feedback,
no complain....

Please let us know. Feed back to Deb Dahl (race chair) or Tom
Fuehrer. See the LOL website for how to contact them:

And, of course, we will need all the workers that we can get. You're
not forgotten.

>i'll drive!

You have an SCCA road-racing license? They are really picky about that.

>if not, i'll work!

Check to see if they want you to be a member.

While you are there, check out the report on our ValleyFair event.

I remember my days as a worker and official at SCCA events at Donnybrooke/BIR. My hearing has pretty-much recovered from standing on the grid among the Can-Am cars.

It was a lot of fun, but I'd rather autocross than watch people race. MAC has an event at AllRight on Saturday, August 21. I'm planning on being there for all the runs this time. :-)

In the halcyon days of yore, autocrossers supported LOL races. Met Council clubs would not schedule autocrosses or rallies in conflict with them. SCCA did not require membership to work races, and SCCA membership was not as expensive as it is today. Things have changed. Sites are more of a problem for both autocrosses and races. We don't have the same freedom of scheduling these days.

I do miss those days when one could attend a Met Council rally on almost any Saturday and a Met Council autocross in the Twin Cities on almost any Sunday. The weekends you couldn't were usually weekends that there were races, either Club or Pro, at BIR.
