Any one plan on going to Waterloo on this Sunday. Would not want to be the only Minnesota guy there. I know there is a Milwaukee event on the same weekend but that is way to far for me. Besides the Probe and I wouldn't stand a chance. About all I would get, is good gas milage on the way there and back. It would be fun to watch all the really good drivers go at it though.

Alright, me too. I am not sure I see the need to leave Rochester before 7:30 this time though. What do you think Roger? Seemed like last time we got there at 9 and had plenty of time to register.

Didn't the registration for the LOL event in early spring close around NOON? ...I'm talking about the double-NASCAR-loop event. That should allow me to sleep until at least 9. :D

Jim, I think we might want to still leave a little bit earlyish - since we don't have Steve to lead us down there, and we may need a little bit of "getting lost" buffer time ;)
It's pretty easy, I think you just take 63 the whole way until you see the greyhound place, but still, I've never driven it on my own, I've always had that subaru on the trailer to follow ;)
MattD - I think it's worth getting up a little early for :dancin: So far, Waterloo is the best place west of the Mississippi that I've ever autocrossed. And both courses that I've run there have been phenomenal. If you wanna go, you can meet up with us in Rochester, it's pretty much right on the way, I think.

Roger, I guess I was thinking about meeting at Fleet Farm at 7:30 instead of 7? We would likely be at the event no later than 10 and registration goes until 10:45. Would that still give you enough time to get your tires on?

i'd be intrested in going, how long is the drive?

Jim, I guess 7:30 should be fine. Do you want to meet at the Fleet Farm or gas station?
Drifinator - Waterloo is about 2 hours from Rochester, so roughly 3 hours (?) from the Cities. But it's worth it :dancin:

I'm really thinking about making the drive as well, although it seems just a tad too far for me right now. I need the seat time, but I wont be able to get my swaybars by then. so i wouldn't be able to justify the trip as testing my setup either.
hmm. this ones a real head scratcher. If i could caravan don with a twin cities posse it would be a bit easier i suppose.

actually, i figure the cost would be lower to head out to st cloud AGAIN this weekend for some practice and tuning runs on the center secion of the course there witht he aarrf guys.
From what i hear, the entire middle is totaly opne during their events. A friend who is always trying to get me out there for some road racing told me that for set up for autocross its a godsend, since you can basically take as many runs as your tires will let you in a day since everyone else comes just to run the lapping course.
stupid cusco cant get my sways here in time still though...

Izaakjordan,
FWIW, there's a multi-time national champion, Jeff Ellerby, that sets up the courses for Iowa region down in Waterloo. Jeff drives a lunatic fringe Lotus 7 clone mod car and he likes his courses fast enough for him to be able to open it up. They're also "thinkers" as far as finding the fastest line to drive. The concrete surface is about as grippy as they come outside of Topeka. That with the availability of of a national caliber driver/instructor, Roger Christopherson, make the drive to Waterloo well worth it. Entry fees are $20/25 SCCA/Guest.
I'd be there for sure if I wasn't going to Milwaukee...

i'm definatly gonna try to go to waterloo, so if you want to cruise with me your more than welcome to (or anybody else for that matter). i got banned from aarrf for llew's personal reasons, so it's a no brainer for me. anybody that's wants to ride down with me just give my cell a call: 612 221 0121 - say your from the mac forum

ps13, I don't know if you're coming down 52 or 35, but if you come down 52, you can meet with me and Jim in Rochester.
If you go down 35, you might be able to meet up with AQ in albert lea or someplace.
Izaak, you won't get a whole ton of seat time in Waterloo, but the seat time that you do get will be extremely high quality.

argh.
now you guys got me really confused and conflicted!
St. Cloud is closer...
Waterloo sounds better, and i really want some instruction. Just having moved into a class with some really good drivers, I'd like to improve my fundamentals this year so that next year I can compete. (that, and i still need to put just a tad more work into my suspension this winter) I got more than three races left in my tires, but I hate driving road trips. especially with my sketchy potenza re92's on the car...
so you talked me into it. What time in the morning do i have to wake up? this is going to kill my saturday night...

Well, I'm sure that waterloo is better, but if you're coming from the cities, I think you'll be driving about 3 hours each way to waterloo . . . If you're a die-hard autocrosser, it's completely worth it. But if you're newer and stuff, and just want seat time, you can certainly get that in St. Cloud.
I hate to convince you to drive all that extra distance if you might be just as happy running with AARRF that day.
Anyhow, your call.
MattD on the other hand, should go to Waterloo for sure :dancin: It rocks. And last time we were there, I think Adam Aansorge drove like 3 cars :)

Yes Adam A did drive three cars and I drove two and Darryl drove two. In fact I think the only Minnesota guy there that didn't drive at least two cars was you "Pinhead". Whats up with that.:p

Sure, 7:30 is fine. You want to meet at the Fleet Farm or the gas station? I'm cool with either one.
If you guys from the Cities are coming down 52 and want to caravan, post up and we'll try to wait. Otherwise Jim and I will split as soon as I straggle my butt in there ;)

Roger, I was just thinking Fleet Farm is on the best side of the rode for exiting back onto 63. See you there bright and early!

ps13 and izaak, if you guys are coming down I35, you're pretty much on your own directions wise.
However, if you coordinate things, Adam Quimby will be leaving from Albert Lea, which is right off 35, and he knows the way from there.
If you're coming down 52 towards rochester, you'll take the 63 exit (providing it's open :sarc ) and then there will be a fleet farm on the right hand side. Jim and I will be there.
However, if you guys are meeting at I35, it is probably better for you to take 35 down instead of 52, I think it's out of the way.
Good luck, see you someplace in the morning!

rochester is too far out of the way (it added at least a half hour to the drive).
i have instructions to the greyhound place, i'm assuming thats where it is.

I wish I did know the way! I know the way to Waterloo on 218 after that I am going to be guessing. I have a slight general Idea but I was hoping to get directions off of here. Can anyone help.

That was an awesome event. Quimby found it no problem ;)
They ran in the opposite direction, and the sweepers were pretty intense. They had a fun, full throttle slalom and pretty crazy lane changes.

Yes it was a lot of fun. I had the pedal to the floor about 80% of the time. that should give you an Idea of how BALLESS my car is.
It was still alot of fun. I really think I am starting to improove in my driving (after some coaching from Adam A) now I just need to get rid of my BALLESS piece of S$%^.
