Great News! The feedback was so positive for the first Valleyfair event, that we've added a second one!

MOWOG 8, originally scheduled for Saturday, October 9th at Midway Stadium has been changed to Sunday, October 10th at Valleyfair Amusement Park. Please note the following changes, necessitated by the high cost and attractiveness of this venue:

1. Registration will $30 in advance or $35 day-of-event for ALL drivers. No member discounts or free entries for Board members.

2. Only one car per driver, to allow more drivers to participate in the event. This rule may be waived at day-of-event, at the discretion of the Event Master.

3. 150 driver limit.

4. Registration and start times are earlier than usual, to allow more time for driving.

Note: the change to Sunday was made to allow more time for course setup.

Very cool of VF to have us back. The best part is the Vikings are out of town which means I have the day off...which means I'll be behind the wheel :-)

Has anyone checked the condition of the pavement in the back portion of the lot? It was looking pretty gnarled up in the northeast corner. Just wondering...

I suppose it's too late to put in my bid as official course-design-guy?

Pat Washburn will be in charge of course design. Most likely, we will be using another Solo2 National Championships course design. Feel free to contact Pat & see what assistance he might need.

If we can only have this site for maybe 2 weekends a year I think next year we should consider 2-day events, get the place Saturday and Sunday. I know I would blow a whole weekend twice a year to have a real site like this.

We could run the same course each day, run the same course in opposite directions or do something completely different each day. Either way, I'm there.

MAC Superweekend! :D

Would probably need to require people to pre-pay for both days though... It would be a gamble to assume that there would be a big turn-out on both days, and Valleyfair is soooo expensive to rent. :oneeye:

A group of us actually talked about this at dinner tonight. I think the chances are very good that the Spring Valleyfair event next year will be a two-day event.

With a two day event do you think it would draw autocrossers from further away? Or perhaps even some press? (ie. GRM) Get the PR wheels in motion....oh, and extra aspirin for all who organize this huge event :-)

I find it somewhat amusing that we make such a big deal out of Valley Fair as a site. In a lot of places people autocross on similar lots all the time (Milwaukee anyone?). Heck, when I got started in this sport here a bit over a decade ago we had a lot that was nearly as good as Valley Fair and we used it all the time. Valley Fair represents what autocross is supposed to be, what it used to be here locally, the sport I remember when I got started.

It's a great site for us and I wish we could use it more often, but it is no supersite.

You're absolutely right!! The Sioux Falls Corvette Club runs (well, at least last year they ran) an autocross every month of the summer a the S.F. Fairgrounds parking lot (huge!) The FTD was never below 1:24, with most people in the 1:30 range. The cost? $15!!!!! 30-50 car turnout. Just imagine how little that site must be to rent!:burnout:

Valley fair is a pretty good sized lot. The first event there left a huge portion of the lot completely unused (considering that there was a course, a paddock, and a double grid), so anytime you're in that situation, you're doing pretty good.

I wish we could find more lots like that, but you gotta take what you can get :dancin:

I'm slowly working on IBM down here, but I am not really expecting anything. . . ever. And I don't think it's quite as big as VF.

Pinhead,

Did you ever check out the Mayo Clinic lot on the West end of town off Second street?
It is between highway 52 adn the country club on the north side.

Steven

As for VF. Size is great, surface is not so great, and rent is very steep. I think you can rent BIR for that much.

Steven - I just saw that lot this morning. we bought a house off 2nd street sw, and with the construction on 52 I decided to try my luck with west circle drive to get to work. It was a bad idea, but I drove right past that lot. It looks great! It's pretty stealthy, I had driven past it before and never saw it.

Do you know anyone at mayo?
