Let's see. Drive to Brainerd to watch folks drive around a race track in cars I can't afford or stay in town and drive around an autocross course in a sports car I already own...

I'll stick with the autocross. See you all at All Right on the 21st.

Seriously, race working can be fun. I spent several years as a Grid Marshal at BIR and RA. I don't want to discourage anyone from going. But even in those days, I liked flogging a car around the pylons better.

We were just discussing in another thread that some road racers found autocross more exciting that "real" racing. I guess my point would be...If you're posting a message ASKING for help (volunteers), you best make sure you aren't "dissing" your prospective volunteers hobby at the same time! I'm not saying this was, just food for thought for the author.

I would personally rank them like so.

1. W2W (don't know just guessing)
2. Solo1
3. Karting League's (that was fun)
4. Solo2
5. Track driving
37. Playing GT3 (only game I have, plus they have my car)
100. Watching racing live.
500. Going to the dentist
1000. Watching racing on TV.

Steve

Where does playing Gran Turismo rank? That should be somwhere in between actually driving, and watching racing on tv... it's like a compromise. :D

Gran Turismo's for sissies! Real men play Grand Prix Legends with realistic damage and full length races. :p

HAHA! I think GT3 is the greatest... It's all about the racing dynamics, man. :D If I wanted damage, I'd buy Destruction Derby!

I just bought the old-school World Rally Championship game...that is real fun. Too bad they never brought WRC 2 or 3 to the ol' USofA.

The "racing dynamics" of Gran Turismo are kid stuff compared to GPL. ;)

Nothing beats seeing how many consecutive sub-9 minute laps you can do at the Nurburgring in a 1967 Lotus 49 before a slight agricultural excursion messes up your alignment so the car will push badly turning right, but won't hesitate to snap around violently if you even think about lifting when turning left. Of course, when you're dealing with an accurate simulation of a 400 HP, 1100 lb. car without downforce and driving on tires that are likely worse than modern street tires, even getting to that point can be a challenge. :D

I've had the game since it was released in '97 or '98 and I still can't put down more than three consecutive good laps at the Ring, despite playing at least monthly (and frequently daily) since I got it.

Matt,

I added GT3 to my list.

Alex,

I'm going to go on a low cal diet tomorrow or the day after that or the day after that so I am ready for you during kart league.
