Ok, so i have taken the step into co-driving.
i will be allowing my friend to co drive my car at MOWOG 6.
i have pre registered and he will be registering at the gate.
so how do we do it? do i take my 3 runs, then change the # and let him do his runs? do i ride with him and vice versa?

First, have him register online (or register for him) and save $5.

The typical process is to alternate driving the car (you take one run, then he takes one run, etc.). Alternately, one of you could take all three runs, then let the other person take three runs. You decide which way works better.

Two-driver cars line up in the left hand lane, so you can go through the line more frequently.

I would take all your runs then swap drivers, switching back and forth, adjusting your seat and seatbelt makes things difficult.

Remembering to switch the numbers EVERY time is hard, so I suggest 3 runs, then switch as well, since you only have to swap numbers once.

And for the last run of the car ---
please go to the back of the line, no need to go thru fast again...

Yes. If you are really lazy^h^h^h^h efficient, you can go first the first heat for all your allowed runs (typically 3, at MAC events), swap numbers, then let the other guy go and take his three, then leave the numbers alone, let the other guy go first and then swap numbers and take your second-heat runs. If there are two heats in the day, you can get by with only swapping numbers twice all day.

You will see folks who run a lot of national-level events alternate with every run. The probable reason they are doing this is that at SCCA Divisionals and Nationals this method is mandated and these drivers want to stay used to that rhythm. The run order for each class at these big events is by the numbers, and the numbers are issued in pairs like 35 and 135. Typically, the tire-warmer will have the 35 number and the guy with the shot at the championship will have the 135 number.

None of this is anything you need to worry about at MAC events. The timing and scoring crew does not care at all which order you run. They care deeply that the number on each side of the car is large, clear, and accurately denotes the person at the wheel. They will be spectacularly unamused by anyone approaching them with retroactive corrections, so make sure the numbers are right for every run. Make sure that you have a good method of changing these numbers and be prepared to demonstrate it at Tech. Also check the pre-runs posting of entrants to make sure that the numbers you think you have are the numbers in the computer for this event. The timing crew would much rather hear about errors before runs start.

If you already own two Met Council permanent numbers, that would be a Good Thing.

Driver changeovers are no big deal at Divs and Nats due to the fact that they stagger the run order to accomodate 2 driver cars to ensure that no one gets an advantage from taking they're runs on hot tires. There is typically plenty of time between each driver/run to make any necessary changes. Same with reruns. Your put on a 5 minute clock and you sit and wait before they release you to take your rerun. Again, to ensure no advantage is gained from hot tires.

Would it be a problem if my co-driver (this is his first time) pre registered, and filled in a empty number close to mine?
he would probably just be using it for this event...

I'd prefer you not do that. Simply include a comment to the registrar, noting you're co-driving, and stating an open number preference, if you have one. We go through and assign numbers prior to the event, and will try to give two-driver cars numbers that are easy to swap.

... and/or put it into the FAQ that Nikki wants to put together.

This is why we have permanent numbers. This is why it is nice to own two permanent numbers.

When I was playing "3 men on a car" at Saint Cloud, there was no drama or uncertainty. Why? Because I own three numbers. For this luxury, I pay the exorbitant price of three dollars a year.

It would be nice if there was a box on the registration form where we could add comments like that. All the other clubs have them.;)

EDIT:
That was quick. :D

There is - it's been there all the time!
(That's my story, and I'm sticking to it...) ;)
