No, actually an anti-lag is much more destructive to your engine than nitrous.

what it basically does is, when you lift off the throttle it retards the ignition like 40 degrees or more, so it doesn't combust the fuel until the exhaust valve has been opened for a while.

Thus, you're igniting the fuel when the mixture is in the exhaust manifold. This keeps the turbo spinning wildly, so that you have boost right away when you get back on the gas.

The constant backfiring that WRC cars do isn't really backfiring, it's supposedly this anti lag gadget doing it's thing.

Nick, I'd make sure that you have a ride back home lined up in advance before you turn that thing on ;)

well I can see why it is legal, nobody in there right mind would do that to a car that they don't plan on rebuilding the engine after every event LOL

anti-lag! You are nuts. Please come to the rallyx on the 31st, because I have got to see this. What do you drive?

Not really. However, you DO need to count on replacing the turbo at least once per season. And you might want to run cast-iron manifolds as well......anti-lag has a tendancy to blow out headers. ;)

Cat? What cat? This is a mod car we're talking about ;)

But yes, it would quickly trash any cats in the way.:barf:

MEOW!!!

I said good bye to my kitties last winter and don't miss them one bit.

Driving a turbo can be very tricky. Some events you are on boost all of the time and others you hit it off and on. It can be really quirky when you are in mid corner under throttle and all of sudden the rush comes and throws you offline, but that is part of the fun. Lucky for Steve he now has the supercharger for smooth forced power delivery.

So does the anit-lag device sound simular to this launch device?

well, we've never blown a stock sti turbo on doug havir's car.... but you MUST keep a close eye on it.

at first i'll only be running it for giggles (like, maybe the last run of the day). one BIG problem of anti-lag is you loose like the lower 1/3 of your part-throttle. the car just ends up bucking and heeving. keep in mind the ex #1 mechanic for prodrive for like 8 years is helping me tune it... and before prodrive he worked for nissan on their gti-r group a cars (the same basic motor as mine).

usually a setup with a long tube header, beefy exhaust valves, and a turbo with a 360* impact thrust bearing will be relilable (that being a reletive word). but i want to try it on a stock setup (since eventually i'll get rid of the turbo anyway)

yep that's why rally cars have the cat as the very last part of the exhaust system (nope, no mufflers on wrc cars, just a cat at the very end).
