I saw an article in SCC about a 240Z with a SR20DET. I always loved the 240z's and this sounds like a cool swap mating old with semi-new. The motor drops about 200lbs off the front of the car to just under a ton. It also is shorter and mounts just above the front axle. All in all it sounds like a good way to make a very cool car cooler.

So would this be SM2 legal? Or how about a C5 with a C5R motor?

A 240Z with an SR20DET would definitely be SM2 legal. Sounds like a fun project!

It's my understanding the C5R engine is not SM2-legal. The reason is that blocks must be production-based, and the C5R engine was never offered for sale in a production vehicle. This seems like a sensible rule to me, as costs would jump through the roof, if specialty race blocks were allowed in SM2.
