At EVO2 several of us were talking about getting rooms in a motel close to Valley Fair, to minimise drive time, (you KNOW I'm up for that...) and maximise fun time, before/during/after the event.

This is pretty short notice, but who is IN for this, not just maybe... It'd be nice to get a block of rooms, and maybe a discount for this block...

I'm planning to be there friday pm to help w/set up if I can shake free from work, or to just get there late friday evening if not, and have an early arrival to the sat. event. I'd be staying saturday pm as well, to get that same early start for sunday.

What makes this a good idea?
-close to the action
-beer, pizza, bench racing, and lots of it
-free continental breakfast in the lobby from 6am to 10am!

What makes this a bad idea?
-$$$
-your car stored outside overnight in a public place
-no real place to work on the car if it blows up or needs a tweek (limited tools and no indoor workspace)

If someone near to the area could scope out and post contact #'s for motels in the area, that'd be great.

Lets see how many YES votes we can get by wednesday, and check out rates and locations. Get me the #'s and I'll check the rates. Anyone know if those "priceline" sort of things would work to get a better rate in this situation?

Not likely. It was sure to get whacked again by the back wheel!

Did you see the video of the cone that did the vertical 360 and landed back on the box at nationals?

I'm not in on the hotel thing, I get free R&B for the weekends at my folks' It would be fun to get a MAC thing going on at Porky's or nearby on Sat. night, between events.

I think Porky's would kind of defeat the purpose of staying near VF... I am thinking Shakopee or Savage. There is a hotel off 169 in Shakopee next to Canterbury, Super8 or something.... From there...maybe the Tin Shed for pizza and beverages off 13 and 101.

I had the same thought. No way will most people want to caravan all the way to Porky's......

A pizza joint near by would get my vote, even if not an automobile icon to the area.

In the Canterbury Park era of Twin Cities autocrossing, we went to a place downtown Shakopee called "Turtles". The joint is a restaurant and sports-bar. They were willing to go to motorsports channels on the TVs. There were motorsports and hotrod pix on the walls. Angle-parking out front, but a useable lot out back. After an autocross, I'd typically order a chef salad and a whole pitcher of water.

I have not been in the joint in years, so someone who lives out that way should give us an update.

Due circumstances beyond my control- a 7 and 5 yr old set of nephews who were adivsed in error that uncle dave and the race car were coming over for the weekend, while I will be at the set up friday, and events sat/sun, I will not be staying in the area, or partaking of the after event festivities on fri or sat.

I still may be interested in a Saturday night stay. I can stay at my brothers in Stillwater in Friday night, but would like to be closer for Sat night. Anyone?

Is there a suite's type hotel nearby? Two beds and a fold out couch make the 3 way split a little cheaper.

There's the Canterbury Inn by the racetrack. Dunno how the costs stack up. I remember when we put up Jim McKamey and crew there he told us it was too fancy, but that was 9 years ago.

If you want to drive, talk and feel what it’s like to be a national champion, stay at the Holiday Inn Express in Shakopee!!!

Hey, we should have made up a sign that said "Holiday Inn Express" for the side of the motorhome. See? ...It's the little things that make champions!

i would be interested in staying at a hotel or something for the weekend.. i think justin's house in edina which is like 10 minutes from vf would be a good choice, altho not sure how many trailers there would be room for... we got about 11 cars in the driveway last weekend, and there is other space in the back.. altho not sure if it would be doable... its more of a "party" accomadations than anything else

O.K., I need to re-group this thread a little after all the little tangents... :) (Please don't reply if you aren't offering something related to the thread...thanks!)

Who wants to go in on a hotel room Saturday night? Steve Buetow said "I'm in". Anyone else?

Also, is there anyone who knows of a "Suites" type hotel neaby. Something with 2 beds and a fold out couch. Three way splits are better if we get a third. (Sorry...it's harder for me to seachn from Wausau...any help would be appreciated!)

Steve B...you have place in mind? (You can PM me at washburn "at" dwave.net if you like.) Thanks all!!

Pat,

If you want a suite, here's the hotel I'd recommend:
Country Inn & Suites By Carlson Shakopee
1204 Ramsey Street, Shakopee MN 55379
Reservations: (800) 456-4000
Telephone: (952) 445-0200 Fax: (952) 403-0680

However, I'm not sure a suite will actually save you any money, as a room with 2 beds at the Canterbury Inn is half the cost of a Suite at Country Inn & Suites. (I just checked rates, and Orbitz has rooms at the Canterbury Inn available for $53.20/night).
