I seen somebody else mention this and thought i'd ask about it here too as the end :( of MAC's autocross season is coming upon us.

Hoping to get this stickied so we can use it to discuss the league going forward this season.

What days and times did you guys run last year. Hoping for a saturday or sunday deal here.

Hoping to keep my driving somewhat sharp this off-season.

However for me it would have to be Sundays nor nothing. My shop needs me to work every Saturday. :(

It was Sundays at noon at Pro Kart sites. We had 2 leagues last year; one league in Blaine and one in Savage (North and South leagues). We had 10 people in each league. And I think we raced like every 3 weeks or something. Steven Mosley set it up last year, so I'd ask him if he's willing to handle it again. Does Blaine even still have a site?

Blaine is gone
but we can run 1 league at the maplegrove Prokart site
and 1 at the the normal Burnsville/Savage site
alll are on Sundays.

I think I'd like to do it again. Sort of.

I didn't like the time we did the one, long 30 minute race, though. If we do that again, I'm out. My throat/lungs can't take 30minutes in those fumes at one sitting :(

I got involved in the league last year and had a blast.

Randy, when it comes time to get this going again be sure to put my name on the list, just where I go will depend on where everyone else signs up. I wouldn't be against getting everyone to one place (Burnsville?) and have qualifiers every time!

Just a thought,
John

Unfortunately, that leads to a bigger time commitment at each event. We would have to run 2hrs, instead of one and the drive for many to B'ville could add another 30-45+min each way (not me, though)...

I have a suspicion that we will get a bigger crowd looking to run this year....we will have to be careful how we organize so that we don't leave people out that are interested...

I'm in for B'ville.

Count me in this year for the burnsville loc.
and i'd love to do an enduro, that would be sweet!
Maybie it could be a mandatory driver switch one... and team up in pairs of two.

jdlhonda

I'd like todo burnsville as I live south of the cities. I guess with all the interest do we need a noobie league and a veteran league? With some shoot out or something so you could switches weeks or change up based on lap times or something? Or something to that effect. Not sure how many people you guys ran with last year or just how everything got going.

I myself haven't done a whole lot of karting mostly at VF, only. I'll have to keep working on that left foot braking at work where we got a goofy Forktruck that pretty much only lets you use your left foot.

Was is one Sunday a month? How much was it per sunday(event)?

burnsville for me too.

And I'd just like to state that I like the enduro last year while I was in the kart, but once I got out, I figured I'd never want to do that again for the rest of my life.

I think geography is going to outweigh separating "power/weight ratio"

Apparently we have two school of thought on the leagues, the big guys vs the little guys. Or the noobies vs the veterans.

I don't care which, but seeing how I'd be at 165 or so for winter weight, I better join the little guy class.

......or a combination of the two. The heavier drivers & those with minimal kart experience in one class. The lightweights & kart hotshoes (you know who you are ;) ) in the other.

I'm hoping we can fill 3 leagues this year. 2 in Burnsville and 1 in Maple Grove.

The Burnsville Leauge I would like divide into 2 with the fast people in one and sunday drivers in another. If we can get Randy, Neal, Salah, Dave B, Chris, Alex, and others to be in the fast league we could have a slower league run right after that.

I'll call Pro-Kart and get things kicked off with them again shortly. They really are starting to like having us. We have been running the following format to work around hoildays.

1 - November
1 - December
4 - every other week in Jan and Feb.

It has been Sunday noonish, but if we get enough people we can do other times.

Send me an email at prokartindoor@yahoo.com with the following info.

1. Name
2. Phone # (for prokart to contact you for verification)
3. Prefered location and time
4. Rank your karting skills 1-5 (be honest please)

Well, I think we're going to end up with enough drivers for two groups anyway. It would be nice to equalize the paying field a little bit. I think people will pretty much self-select into the group they feel comfortable with.

Not sure whether I'd be fast or slow compared to you's guys. I went quite a bit the last couple of winters to burnsville... usually turning laps in the 20 - 21 sec range. Sometimes higher if a bunch of nascar wannabe's were slamming t-boning on every corner.

That's because you are one of the fast guys.

I suppose after every event you could take the two fastest guys in the slow group and the two slowest guys in the fast group and swap them.

This could get complicated by who gets stuck with a slow kart.

As someone who has been in tons of leagues at prokart and ran about everyway possible i have some advice for everyone.

One weight really does play that big of deal at b'ville as you would think. Once it gets cold outside, its really hard for us light guys to get any traction in the corners. good drivers will be fast no matter what. Ive seen it done many times.

Two the funniest way to run a large group league is to have heats and features. Everyone is there to watch and cheer. Also you are always racing with different people and it doesnt get confusing on what league you are in.

Three handicap the hotshoes by starting them at the back for the field during the heat races. This can only be done if there is clean racing otherwise it turns into a mess, but is the most fun when is done correctly.

Just my 2 cents

How much does this usually run?

I'll have to debate between this, ice racing and setting my car up for next year/for DP the year after.

I'll probably run the fast league. I think I can keep up with M.C. Williams :D

Chin

I don't like the idea of "permanent" fast and slow leagues... I ran mid-pack last year in B'ville so I will either be at the front of the slow group or the rear of the fast group. I would either go for the "swap" format, or a more or less random assignment. We all know there will be too many people that "think" they should be in the fast league, anyway.

Also, after running last year, yes, weight is a factor. I don't buy the "heat in the tires" argument when you are running for 20+ min... I was slower due to the different "finesse" style of driving required and the weight, but mostly due to the former.

What does a kart weigh? 250lbs? What do I weigh? ~210 What does a member of the "Nikki League" weigh? 160? Do the math....

I'd be in for a Burnsville league... I think I can afford to make that drive once or twice a month.

I'm sort of thinking maybe we could have a qualifier day before the season kicks off, to see where everyone stands, and split to two leagues based upon that. Do they time your laps, or does that cost extra?

Just randomize it - that way everybody gets a chance to play with everybody else.

There are ALOT more variables at Prokart ,but I appreciate your confidence in me.
Weight has an effect both ways
1. light guys do take longer to warm up there tires but at some tracks
they get to come out of slow corners with a bit more acceleration
2.heavy guys get better initial grip but eventually that advantage diminishes.

The biggest factor is whether you get a GOOD kart, they are not always as EQUAL as we would like
And each week which kart is fastest changes

So also remember, this is for fun,so keep the spirit of this intact and try not to make it complicated

By the way, I'm a tweener at 180 LBS

I like Ryan's suggestion for the way to run it. It makes the most sense to me. Permanent classing, mid-year switching or per run rotation, just seems too complicated. Just mix it up, and have fun. :D

It IS very fun, and more so with a group! I'm looking back at the locs and I'll mail in a definate "hellzyes!"

This sort of league is exactly what you are looking for...everyone has (at least) some amount of skill and everyone is trying their hardest to be fast. What that results in is the cleanest go-kart racing you will find, outside a true series. Granted, it is a big cluster-* at the first event and the first few corners of each race, but once everything sorts out, it is typically good clean racing. ....no "scaredy-cat" running down the straight, in your line, at half throttle and hitting the brakes 20' before they should be... :D

After reading the replies...my final suggestion will be, randomize the leagues, followed by a final event that takes the top from each league for one race and the rest split into separate (unimportant) ;) races. Similar to what we did last year for one event where we ran the qualifier.

Quick Update:

I will go through my emails tonight and make a list and post it here. Then I will talk to Prokart.

From taking a quick look it looks like we will have enough for 2 or 3 leagues in Burnsville. I'm not sure about Maple Grove yet. I will be contacting John Boos and Mike Skillingstad to see if they are going to run up north if we are running short of people.

Once we get the list composed we can work out the details on how to run the league. I'm for the 2 southern leauges running with the bottom from the A league moving down and the top 2 from the B league moving up depending on standings.
