Pretty much as expected. Hopefully this is simply posturing, and the project won't go the way of Minnesota Dragways. :?

I've has several insurance claims in pine city area, and have asked the average Joe in the street what they think, and not a one has had a bad thing to say, all so far have hoped this comes to pass. Hopefully the folks with the questions will have them answered so this project can move foreward.

No kidding, Seems like if someone doesn't want something to be built they will find ANY reason. NIMB!

I'm not holding my breath, too many people out there that don't want to see these things go up. It's hard for me to understand why, but then again I grew up on Gran Turismo.

Is go together, buy up about 1000 acres, and then build our house/shops on the parimeter, and then a race facility in the middle.
Whatcha think?

If I could figure out realistic business plan I would be all over it. Dream of building a road course near in the millville around the motocross track.

There are communities all over the country that have done this very thing with hangars and an airstrip. I can't imagine that a bunch of weathly retirees is going to make any less trouble in their Pipers than we would in our cars.

Is where would we find such a spot?
Close enough to commute to a job?
Well, I don't commute anymore, but the wife does.......

FYI:
A Piper IS also a British Sports Car...

But we're not all wealthy --- retirees or otherwise :)

My Step Dad used to live up in that area and he brought me over to were the facility is going to be (fingers crossed). it seemed to me that most of the people who displayed that they were against it lived right next to the track. There is literally nothing out there relative to todays standards. There are maybe a gas station and resturant/bar within 5-10 minutes of the location. The injection of money into that area would be great. That resturant/bar would blow up on weekends with racers and spectators, no question. It seems that the have nots don't want anyone else to have anything so they are against it all the way, even thought it could potentially benefit them.

OK, you caught me on this one. I have heard of canal boats British-made by Piper, but I don't remember a car by that name.

Not even close.

Private motorsport "country clubs" are an interesting idea. Here's a good article:

http://auto.consumerguide.com/Articles/index.cfm/act/featuredarticles/article/FA_Car-Clubs.html

Here’s an interesting quote from the article:

“After being turned down by banks and confronted with the knowledge that at least 20 other country club-style road courses in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area failed throughout the last 20 years, Farr used his personal holdings and funds from his electronic printing business to begin construction.”

If I knew how to use bold-face in this forum, I'd have used it for the "20 other...failed" line.

Here are the websites for the facilities mentioned in that article.

Autobahn Country Club, Joliett, IL
http://www.autobahncountryclub.net/

Motorsport Ranch, Cresson, TX
http://www.motorsportranch.com/

Virginia International Raceway Motorsport Country Club
http://www.virclub.com/vir/

Valley Motorsports Park, Tamworth, NH
http://www.clubmotorsports.com/faqs/

I've seen another website for the Motorsport Ranch that had some photos, but I've lost the url.

Saw an article on Autobahn in Grass Roots Motor Sports a month or so. The membership fees are something like $20,000/yr... :o :o :o

I thought I read somewhere else that is was $25,000 for initiation, and $2,500 a year for dues.

I believe that the Joliet club is $25,000 for initiation, and $3,000 a year for dues. The founders each put in 100 grand for a lifetime membership.

There is a statement in the article that the members are mostly affluent. Mostly?

That's the high end. Motorsports Ranch in Texas is $2400 for the initiation, $75.00 per month, and $20.00 per half-hour track session. But it is Texas, where they can run all year round, land is cheap, taxes are low, they don't much care if you make noise, and you can have an open container in your car. Texas...mmmm...

No state income tax!
Why do we stay in this the land of 10,000 taxes, and what Joe Soucheray say's, where nothing is allowed? :flame:
Oh 'cause we like the weather?
Uh, Minnesota nice?
Uh, all our relatives live here?

It is not a good sign that the proponents of the park rely upon an economic impact statement generated for a different geographical area, different business plan, and different century...the inference drawn is that they haven't the confidence or backing to do their own. I will cross my fingers, but not hold my breath.
