Thanks for the update. Looks like I will be giving away my spot on Jan 22 though as it's Nikki and I's going together anniversary and depending on how things workout we may even hit Vegas that weekend. :D

How does this work with respect to how we did it last year? We didn't have 20 people per session. If we end up with less track time for the same $$, you can count me out...

I read their page and it says 1 4min qualifier and 2 17min sessions...the math says that you cannot get 19 or 20 drivers through in an hour, am I missing something?

39 drivers will require a single 3 hour league OR 3 seperate leagues for the event to be fun. Two hours will be complete chaos and the driving will likely suck.

I agree. Even with a dozen drivers on track, things tend to get clogged up with too much traffic and not enough racing.

Ivan

Bummer, that time is exacly when I was hoping it wouldn't be. My choice was for Maple grove if the events were on the weekend. I already have to make a 40 mi. round trip to southern bloomington on sunday evenings and weekdays.
Count me out if the events need to be Sunday.

Thanks for the work organizing, Steven.

If anyone wants to get together for some Maple Grove driving, I'm up for that pretty much any time. (or even lunch hour at Burnsville)

I'm with you on that. I told them I personally don't want to show up and drive for an hour and sit around for 3. I think we will have to break things up and maybe run on alternate weekends. I'll touch base with them and get back to everyone on Monday.

I'm somewhat confused as to what's going on here...

I proposed to PROKART that we break up the league into 2 leagues running opposite weeks. I'm waiting to hear back from them. Both leagues would start at 10am on a Sunday morning. If this works for them we will have to get setup for different dates.

League A:
Week-Date
1 - Nov 13
2 - Dec 4
3 - Jan 8
4 - Jan 22
5 - Feb 5
6 - Feb 19

League B:
1. Nov 20
2. Dec 11
3. Jan 15
4. Jan 27
5. Feb 12
6. Feb 26

thank you.

i have two more small questions. How long does this last (8 hours, 5 hours, 3 hours...?) and how much of that time is actually spent driving?

Steve, this still does not appear to solve the main issue... ~19 people per session! Are they expecting to have 19 karts on the track at the same time?

...or are they going to run 2hr sessions?

SalahK
11-12-2005, 04:30 PM
I recommend having 3 leagues instead of 2. Also it is best to vary the start time so everyone can find a league that works for them. For example...

League 1 (10am - 11am)
League 2 (2pm - 3pm)
League 3 (12pm - 1pm) (Alternate week)

This way everyone can find a league that works for them so no cancellations, and more drivers can join in the coming weeks. Besides 13-14 drivers per league is WAY better then 19-20 drivers!!!

Any new info on the Kart league?
If there isn't one let us know.
I personally think that anyone that is signed up to run needs to commit to
it by paying up,in full! NO excuses
So we aren't thinking we have 40 racers and it ends up we have 20
who will pay-up.

I'm not sure either. The last contact I had with Tim was before early November. I called him and then sent him an email with the dates and a list of people. He called latter and told me he wanted to do an earlier starting time. I told him on the phone I would have to get back to him. I replied via email to the email address he gave me since I was out of state and out of cell coverage. I since have changed phones and don't have his direct number and have not heard from him since. I left 3 messages at the office and will leave one more and if I don't hear back I guess that is it. Maybe we could rent Silicon Valley at the MOA.

This might be a face-to-face kinda deal.

StevenMosley

I left 3 messages at the office and will leave one more and if I don't hear back I guess that is it.

I talked to Tim, and he tried to call but the three numbers he has for you are either disconnected, some former work number for you, or some company with a long-distance area code (846 or something like that) who didn't know who you were.

He says to call his cell phone. Check your PMs.

Steve, I cannot commit until I see the dates as I will be in Asia for ~4.5 wks in Jan/Feb. If I miss one event, no problem, but if the schedule forces me to miss >1, I will have to sit out this year. :(

So, I guess what I am trying to say is if you set it up and there is an opening, I will join in if the dates work out. Thanks for putting this together.

This is a personal note for your eyes only.

Ok, I’m booking right along down the straight, brake, and then start my turn in, a kart on both bumpers (all three of us on the driving line), and all the sudden, foot to the floor fast this kart slams into my side and cuts inside me, in other words I was the braking zone. I don’t need to say anymore, do I Alex…

I seem to remember an incident two years ago where I was coming up on a couple slow drivers I needed to get past. I moved to the inside and braked late, when all of a sudden one of them turned in hard accross the front of my kart and spun themself in the process...

I'm looking forward to some, good clean racing like I was able to have all last year with Salah. We had a number of really good battles, and the best part was that no matter how many laps we went necka and neck, neither of us ever forced a pass or blocked in an unsportsmanlike manner. There was one incident last year in the last race where I tried too hard to break away at the start and ended up spinning someone (Christian, I think) and immobilizing myself. That was a mistake on my part.

If you still want to drive dirty, let me know because I can play that game too if I have to (just ask the lap traffic that thought it would be cool to block me for multiple laps while I was fighting for the lead last year).

take the exit just before that, that takes you in though the lumbar yard area.

Are the results based on the last heats alone, if that's the case my sheet shows me ahead of S. Buetow and I remember passing him cause it was the only one I made, that didn't involve the cars ahead being crashed. Ha funny stuff.

I had a great time in my first time out go karting in anything but valley fair karts.

Didn't you run in one of the heats after practice and qualifying? I was under the impression that you stuck around (everybody looks the same in those carts)

Yeah, I ran one "real" heat, and I would have been in the "fast" final heat, since I ended up 4th in my Semi.

Jason,
You did pass me in the LCQ (decisively) but the points totaled were for both the qualifying and the LCQ (except for the top two that went on) and for the Championship round (which neither of us were in). We'll go again next time.

That's the explanation I was looking for. I guess I didn't quite catch all that points stuff. Like I said, I'm going for the improvement award here, couldn't keep the back end of that cart behind me on any of the tight hair pin stuff. And number nine seemed like it had no brakes, ask Zak, I accidently used him for a brake twice I believe, both times after the high speed section, whereas number 13 seemed to have alot of play in the throttle cable.

I don't think I'd want to do that around Dave Bahl or rdub, though. I think they've been there, done that, and know 50 ways of taking revenge that I've never even thought of.

Yeah, I was there and will continue to be there. Unlimited free seat time is priceless..... Are you going to reschedule? Our indoor layout is much more fun than BV's, IMO. A sweeper leads into a quick "S", then a left hairpin leading into a long sweeper/35mph straight. That leads into a right, left hairpin to end the lap. It's awesome when you nail the braking and turn in coming off the straight. You can just fly by everyone else who apex's WAY too early and get on the sweeper with a 5 mph advantage.

Sometimes (ie upon request) on Wednesdays we open up the back straight creating a modified oval. It's more of a 3/4 oval with an "S" and a hairpin. You will get a full 40-45 mph on that track and really learn the importance of a higher speed turn in.

Come try it.

My lap times from the first heat for me look like a yo-yo!!!!! Trendlines are all point down so doing something right so far.

Hey Bob,

I just test drove an A4, and I thought the front seats of the Mini were approximately as spacious as the A4... However, the rear seats/luggage compartment of the Mini are a joke. So it depends on what you do with your daily driver. It is hard to imagine replacing an A4 with a Mini, though ;) If you ever haul anything, the Mini is not a good car. It'll barely haul the stuff I need to autocross ;)

Let's us Rochester guys all get together sometime after Christmas and think about going karting! I need to practice driving something.

The heck with the standings, let's hear who shunted who this time:evil:

To tell you the truth the racing has been rather clean the past two weeks. This past Sunday we sure thought the fast race was looking for trouble but it never happened.

I was noticing that we used to have faster Best Laps than we have been having lately. Was anyone on the 20sec range this past week or even the below 21.5.

Jason "still too darn slow"

The racing is getting better as some of us are starting to figure out the driving lines…

I’m a bit sore…I spun and got t-boned by “never looks ahead” Shane. Did the heat, LCQ, and final with about 1 minute of break time, 80 laps… I passed a few and got passed by a couple. The best was letting Chris M. by knowing he’d take out Neil, he did and I passed them both…Thanks Chris…

What's the deal do you think with the overall best lap time going down.

I think some of us have gotten better at playing defense as well. Dave B. is particularly good.

The best was letting Chris M. by knowing he’d take out Neil, he did and I passed them both…Thanks Chris…

Actually, I think that was when Chris and I both got screwed 'cause Zak spun in front of me...but my memory is already fuzzy so I might have that mixed up.

But it was all intentional. I was giving you a birthday present, Darryl. ;)

I didn't spin at all unless i was put into a wall or encountering another accident.. So i'm staying away from this contraversy =]

I’m a bit sore…I spun and got t-boned by “never looks ahead” Shane.

You got spun just as i was passing the "point of no return" in a cart with soft brakes.
My ass still hurts. :(

Sorry...replace "spin" with "massive accidental slide sideways with a sudden and unexpected loss of speed, causing me to perform extreme evasive maneuvers...". How's that? :p

BTW, I know it wasn't intentional or anything, and I totally didn't mean to imply it was. But anyway in order to not totally T-Bone you, I ended up coming to a dead stop almost against the wall, collected Chris, and let Darryl by in the process.

I was noticing that we used to have faster Best Laps than we have been having lately. Was anyone on the 20sec range this past week or even the below 21.5.

Hmmm... I wonder if the Karts are getting slower or if the track has changed slightly. At the last race, my fastest lap was a 21.3xx, but I don't seem to recall the fastest lap in the series so far. Were'nt we under 21 seconds a few weeks ago, or am i just imagining this?

We were in the 20's well you fast guys were, I know Randy was like 20.8ish I believe the week Ryan - 20.660? (i think? Zak's sub).

My times I think are fairly even but the fastest laps of the day aren't nearly as fast. Anyone keeping their sheets. I've got mine. But I've been in the slow heat but maybe I can put together enough statistical evidence to show one way or another.

Did anyone do the league run off tonight??

OK, I was about 20 feet back, what you said is what happened. Thanks for letting the old man by, then driving clean behind me...

And yes, the karts are a bit slower… I think the fast time the second week was a 20.0xx with several others in the low 20’s… Now the best times are around 21.5… Like Salah said, track change is the most likely culprit… Cant seem to plant the rear end through the long sweeper anymore and the karts seem to lock up under braking more… When I was T-boned the guy running the league said I spun on my own, brake lockup… Slick track?

My memory... its foggy.

Actually I dont look back enough sometimes to remember when any of this was. I was concentrating on just driving straight with all the bumper taps I had been getting. I know i blew a few turns, but I guess i never saw their affect on other people. I was just trying my hardest to stay on the line and drive to the best of my ability.

After things settled down I followed you for about the last 10/12 laps and only made small gains… you did nothing wrong… If someone is fifteen feet back and you make the smallest error, brake lock or whatever, the gap closes quick… I’m sure I was holding up Neil and Chris…

They say, don't look back...that only slows you down...

My memory... its foggy.

Don't worry about it! Like I said, it was obviously just a mistake, so there's nothing you did wrong at all. I did almost exactly the same thing all by myself in the exact same turn the week before, except that I ended up nosing myself into the wall and getting stuck. I went from 2nd to 6th or something, and had nobody to blame but myself. :x

Ditto what Darryl said. I was behind you for a good while, and it took me quite a while to catch up to you. You were going really well, and I was only just barely able to gain on you most of the time...except for every couple laps where you would make a larger mistake that would let me catch up a lot of ground.

It's close at the front, but it's close at the back, too. I've had close races with Shane, Jason, Zak, and Steve B. And we've all improved significantly over the course of the "season"!

But the racing at the front is insane! I had as much fun watching the "fast-guy" qualifying heat as I did racing. (Okay, *almost* as much fun.)

Really looking forward to this week's "final". Really sorry that it's the last event.

That's an understatement, Really Really Really Sorry is more like it. It's been a lot of fun the past 5 weeks and we have so much time left togo before our Auto X season gets underway.

I'm hoping to get back up there few times before the season starts for some arrive and drive time, maybe even a family outing.

Anyone need a sub for this Sunday? I have a weekend off from the bike racing and I have my own helmet......

Just an FYI for all involved: there is a benefit for a local motocross family going on after the MAAC league this Sunday. $30 get's you all the rides you can muster, free food, and a shot at an extensive list of door prizes. Goes from 1:00-3:30ish I believe.

Fun event!!! 200 laps!!! Jason and I held our own the first 100 lapper and finished second behind team Dave and “Farm Boy” Randy (look close at the picture of Randy, they lapped everyone but us, OK, Dave could have (nice guy)…

The second one didn’t go so well… Shane did a great job and held onto 3rd place… I got in the kart moved into second for a few laps… Got passed by the sub Aaron/Barry (son) team… Figured I’d pass him back, locked up the breaks, spun sideways and Dave nailed me…We finished last, sorry Shane…

Was in impressed with #1 son, 41.110 and 41.050 his last two laps out, last to third… All three subs did very well, thanks guys, Barry, Aaron and Ivan…
