ANNOUNCEMENT
The annual Rules Meeting of the Metropolitan Council of Sports Car Clubs will held on Saturday, December 10th, from 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM. The meeting will be held at the home of the current Rules Chair, Steve Garnjobst. Members from all Met Council clubs are welcome to attend.
The purpose of this meeting is to discuss and agree on what changes (if any) will be proposed for the 2005 Met Council Autocross Series Rules. Proposed changes will then be provided to all Met Council Clubs for review. Club representatives will vote on any proposed changes at the February Met Council meeting.
While all topics are fair game at the meeting, the following issues have already been identified for discussion.
1) Multiple entries at events. Current rules permit a driver to enter events twice. Several members have complained this practice provides an unfair competitive advantage to those entering more than once, and have proposed elimination of multiple entries. Other members have expressed some concern that elimination of multiple entries would be a financial burden to clubs. One possible compromise would be to class all drivers with multiple entries in Exhibition (X). This solution seems to address both concerns.
2) Inclusion of SCCA Supplemental Classes. Current rules only support SCCA classes with full National status, less karts & ladies classes, plus a couple Met Council only classes. The SCCA also offers two Supplemental classes, STU and STS2, which are new classes in a trial period. A number of members have requested these classes be added to the rules. Both classes are for cars on street tires, and participants would largely come from existing Street Tire Index Class participants. Given the large Street Tire Index Class participation, we would likely see fair number of cars in both classes. For reference:
STU - High performance sedans, such as Mitsubishi Evo, Subaru STi and BMW M3. Modifications similar to STX.
STS2 - Smaller 2 seat cars, such as early Mazda Miata, Toyota MR2 (1st generation), and Honda CRX. Modifications similar to STS.
3) Class Labelling. Several members have requested additional language, clarifying requirements for number & class labelling on cars.
4) Helmets. The rules need to be revised to reflect new Snell 2005 standards. Based on the National requirements of some Met Council Clubs, the rules will need to reflect a requirement for 2000 or newer helmets.
If you wish to ensure additional topics are on the agenda, please submit them to me by December 7th, so I can distribute a revised topic list to member clubs.
