Greetings from the North Star BMW Club Board, we hope this "Winter"
finds you well. Assuming we do get more snow (March is the snowiest month
right?) we have some excellent opportunities coming up to develop or
hone those winter driving skills. We are offering an all day Winter
Driving School for Teens only on February 11th, and an Adult school on Feb
12th. Both schools will be conducted at Dakota County¿s Technical
College excellent facility. They include in-car instruction throughout the
day, along with interesting classroom material as well. The schools
are held rain or shine (and preferably with snow) and even without any
snow, you will learn a lot and have a lot of fun in the process.
The cost for the teen program is $50, and the adult program is $100.
Easily outweighed by the deductible from one minor incident...
Membership is not required for the Teen School, so go and tell friends
and family with teenagers about this opportunity (and tell the teens to
register their parents).
For more information or to register, go to our website at
http://northstarbmw.org
Sincerely,
The North Star BMW Board

so are they going to truck in snow, or is this basically going to be an autocross? :)
I wonder how much abuse snow tires will take if the event ends up happening on dry pavement...

Was watching the event for a little while. Just registered for it. Gonna be fun. I did the BMW teen driving school last Spring and a couple months ago the Audi Teen driving school. The BMW one was better for me in my opinion. Both are good schools tho.

I wish I was a teen still... but only because it would cost me $50. I'd like to do it, but $100 it just too much money for me to spend right now.

So, do you have to be a member to take the adult class ? That would add about $40, right ?
Stuart.

No idea. I'm a member and I have no idea how I became one. One day I just started getting BMW magazine and then I started getting local chapter info. About a month later I bought am old BMW to replace my Honda.
Check the website. I recieved the message in my email.

I think you do need to be a member for the adult classes. Well this is my experience with the teen one but the adult one might be similar. It was REALLY fun. I had Dave Neilson(think that is how you spell it) and he was a GREAT instructor. I was in my moms Toyota Rav4 and had fun pushing it to its limit and then over it through the slalom(I went into understeer and blew over 2 cones). It was not cold because it was spring and so we didn't get a ice skid pad so I am looking forward to that. The wet skid was fun tho. Really liked getting to just go and have a fun time yet still learning a TON about car control because you get a LOT of runs with an instructor to help you the whole time. There was only like 20 kids last time so you got a lot of 1 on 1 runs with an instructor. Hope it is like last time because even tho it was more than 3/4 year ago I can honestly say that it was one of the highlights for car stuff for the year. You also don't have to have a nice car or anything for the teen class at least. Not sure about this time but the last time I ran my mom's Rav4 and pushed it. Then there was a girl in a mini van that just went at her own pace and had a hard time pushing it and kinda looked a little shy to push it. Then there was a Subaru that another girl was driving. She had fun and going through advasive lane change spun into the side grass and went sideways. hahaha it was kinda funny because it was spring and all this mud and water flew up the side and over the car. She laughed about it after. Then there was also a brother and sister driving a GMC full sized Yukon. Lol that was pretty funny going though the slalom. The back tire would hit a lot of cones. Basically they wanted you to learn the limits of the car you drive. That means drive what you brought and that allowed people to use their daily driver instead of some track prepared car they drive only during the summer or that there dad lets them drive only a few times a year. Really fun course tho and I would recomend to whoever has the day open to take the course.

I will be instructing at the BMW winter teen school this Saturday.
On Sunday I will be participating in the ice driving event with the Audi club ;)
Looks like I have a long fun weekend ahead of me.
Wait a second, I've been on Maui for the last 10 days, where i drove a 2006 Mustang convertable V6 on the twisty road to Hana, and a 2006 Chrysler Sebring Convertable V6 up to the summit of Mount Haleakala, so I haven't exactly been deprived of fun lately :)

Dang Salah that is cool. Hey do you think I could get you as an instructor or have they already picked instructors for people. That would be very cool to have you be my instructor. Also I and my dad are doing the Audi ice racing on Sunday also. Gonna be a very fun weekend with lots of track miles. See you on Saturday.

Instructor/Student pairings have already been made. I just got a student assigned to me today as i signed up late. The format of the event leaves plenty of opportunity for students to try out different instructors.
See you Saturday! And Sunday!!

Since you aren't an instructor, is Sunday an open driving event then? (not that it matters to me...I have no money and I'm still driving on summer tires. ) Winter driving @ DCTC sounds painfully frustrating.

Ice racing with the quattro club... not the driving school
I guess summer tires would be worse for that.
