The easiest way to find all the MAC events is simply search for all events in Minnesota. ;)

Unless this year is different, no. It is a school, not a competition (notice everyone is classed SI for registrations purposes).

You do not need numbers for the school.

EWAustin

I did notice that everyone was classed as SI, but I didn't know if there would be a need to Identify the drivers at a distance.
Thanks, this means I can put off the numbers for a little while longer.

Not required. However, I think Phil is planning to be at the classroom session again this year, so students can reserve numbers. Last year, he also had inexpensive magnetic numbers available.

Yes, I plan to be there to reserve numbers. I urge folks who read this forum to beat the rush and do it now, however. See the Permanent Number Update under "General Discussion".

I will have magnetics to sell if I get my act together and make some. I already have some orders, so those come first. You may want to order those now, too. See my explanation under rules and classes in this forum.

I can't rule out a price increase, but if you have ordered them from me, your price is locked.

For convenience and time savings, Phil has by far the best deal going. Why mess around gatherin all the stuff you need when Phil already has it done. Well worth it.

We will be tuiming you at the Novice school, but you will only see the displayed time after the run. We do not record them. If you want to compare your time, you will have to remember them or jot them down.

Wow... that's me! Who knew? That's actually my favorite pic of me... kinda sad, isn't it? I have been waiting for personal and professional life to criss-cross for a while now, and it finally happened. It's nice, because it means the work I'm doing professionally is starting to pay off.

Anyway, so yeah, I'll be driving le car de Stooo, but if I have may way about it I'll soon be the proud owner of a 1994 Mustang Cobra Saleen Conversion from Cali. $9k/pristine with a cool fanged grill and a double spoiler. Yeah, I know, not a traditional autoxer, but I've been a huge Pony fan for as long as I can remember and this one makes me drool every time I think about it.

I'm going to get a helmet... any ideas or suggestions about where to go and what to get? I'm a total n00b at this, so if you could advise that would be very cool.

Basically you'll need to have your car ready to be tech inspected at the classroom session on Saturday. If there's any doubts about what might not pass, bring them up early so we can help you deal with them before the class. You can shoot a note out about anything your not sure about.

Otherwise just bring yourself, the class will go through all the other stuff you'll need to bring to the parking lot. :)

I just want to remeber to grab what I need, as I won't be coming back to Mankato between the event days. I'll bring my helmet, I'm not sure if there is clothing restrictions (long pants, long shirt, etc)

As far as the inspection, seems like if a car is street legal and "solid" it should be fine. Only question is, do I need a number on the side of my car?

We like you to have a pair of shoes that are firmly attached to your feet. No thongs flopping around.

You want to wear shorts and a tee-shirt, we don't care. You want to wear Rayon instead of cotton, we don't care. I always wear long trousers and long-sleeve shirts, but that's because my skin barbecues itself in the sun.

LOL... I am not sure if everyone gets this, but there is an inter-generational gap terminology snafu going on :D We had the exact same thing happen at work... One of the slightly older guys at work innocently asked one of the younger girls about the "thongs" that she was wearing ;) Hilarious.

So anyhow, back to the thong-talk :D

(and for anyone that's sincerely confused, thong used to mean sandals, in todays venacular, it means underwear typically - hopefully ONLY - worn by females)

PeteySi
03-03-2006, 10:34 AM
I think the footwear thong is called "flip-flops" in the parlance of our time. Which begs the question, why can't "flip-flop" also transpose to the undergarment thong? After all, as onomatopoeia (sp?), isn't "flip-flop" equally applicable to both products?

phile
03-03-2006, 12:56 PM
"Thong" was the default name for the footwear in Minnesota. "Flip-flip" was something they said elsewhere. Jimmy Buffett standardized it with a top-forty tune in the era when pop-tops still routinely came off of pop and beer cans.

What good is language if you can't have fun with it, I always say. Here is what Webster says:
============
Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary
Main Entry: thong
Pronunciation: 'tho[ng]
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English, from Old English thwong; akin to Old Norse thvengr thong
1 : a strip especially of leather or hide
2 : a sandal held on the foot by a thong fitting between the toes and connected to a strap across the top or around the sides of the foot
3 : a garment consisting of a narrow strip of fabric fitting between the legs and a waistband that is worn as underwear or the bottom piece of a bikini
- thonged /'tho[ng]d/ adjective
================
Main Entry: flip-flop
Pronunciation: 'flip-"fläp
Function: noun
1 : the sound or motion of something flapping loosely
2 a : a backward handspring b : a sudden reversal (as of direction or point of view)
3 : a usually electronic device or a circuit (as in a computer) capable of assuming either of two stable states
4 : a rubber sandal loosely fastened to the foot by a thong
- flip-flop intransitive verb

I did a fair amount of reading about the XR4Tis and the Sierra 4x4 Cosworth, and while they do look pretty similarly, it's not easy, it requires floorpan modifications, custom driveshafts, and a whole bunch of other stuff. You're really better off just doing a engine swap and living with the 2WD.

Hold that thought for a couple days. Since we did online registration & payment, it's going to be an administrative pain to ask people to "bow out".

I will sell my spot for $100.

Check for it on ebay. Just kidding.

I have done just about 3 events worth of autocross as well as the school last year. There I admitted it. I also have a new (to me) more powerful car that I don't know how to drive. The classroom experience may not be as necessary for me, but I do need some time with an instructor in the car. Hopefully someone that will keep yelling at me to look ahead or something like that.

As long as we are admitting things, I have a confession to make...

I took the class last year too. In my defense (or perhaps lack of honor, depending on Pat's mood?), it was the only time I have ever gotten in my car where my purpose had nothing to do with traffic laws and point A to B. I would love to find a reasonable excuse for needing to repeat, but realistically this is about spending my hard-earned money to gather knowledge and experience from a great group of instructors, and I know I left some of that behind last year. I had planned on progressing from the novice class to other competitions, and my summer got away from me far too quickly. My intent is to redeem some of that lost knowledge (or things I missed all together), and put together a good solid base for further competition and potentially more instruction on a different level. My sincere apologies to those who will be unable to participate, and I am not trying to hide that I did the class last year, nor am I trying to disrespect Pat or the other members, but this is the choice I made for myself, and until I hear otherwise, I will stick with it :D

I didn't think about the pre-reg and pay thing. I guess that makes things more difficult. (Pat must learn to check with the board before saying things!) :) Do what Steve says...I think we'll end up finding a way to accomodate everyone in one way or another. No sweat.

Anyone who's currently registered - stay that way.

For the record, no novice school experience, but I have done 4 events so far after I got my car last summer.

I'd like to register for it, but it closed up before I could :(.

Also I'm at College and I don't have my car here, I will have access (easily) to my car over spring break (March 17th to 27th) I could make it to this april one, but it's a little more difficult then one when I'm on break.

sorry if im bumping an older thread, but I havent seen the newer one for this event. Anyway, Im completely new to autoX and cant wait for the class/track time. Just wondering are friends and family welcome to watch? Is there a fee? Also I think it was answered earlier but we do not need a helmet for this event correct?
thanks

Spectators are welcome at events and there is not a fee, but they do have to sign a waiver and get a wristband. I would discourage spectators at the novice school however, since it's much more focused and fast paced than the regular events and spectators can be a distraction.

You are correct that you no not need to bring a helmet. We have loaner helmets available at all events.
