This event is listed at www.mnautox.com as a Met Council Series event, can someone confirm that it still is? If so, then it also will be (must be) operating under Met Council rules.

Is LOL SCCA a part of Met Council? I do not beleive this to be a Met Council event. The rules will be SCCA, not Met Council as far I know. Our webmaster may have placed that information on the site erroniously.

Yes, LOL has been a member of Met Council for over 30 years. Since before there WAS such a thing as Solo2, in fact.

I can't tell you if this is a Met Council event, but it certainly possible. LOL is a member club, and the event is less than 100 miles from the State Capitol dome.

Sorry I won't be there for this one. The TR4 will be joining 10,000 of its closest friends at the MSRA "Back to the 50s" event at the State Fairgrounds. This even oxymoranically allows cars up to 1964.

Re: Eau Claire a Met Council event?

Unless I was mistaken, when we set up the Met Council events, LOL said they would participate in the Met Council series this year and that Eau Claire would be their Met Council event. I've heard nothing different since that time. LOL's Solo chairman and Met Council resigned, and according to the June SCCA newsletter has just been replaced. I'll try to get a clarification from the new chair.

I'm unsure whether the event can run under SCCA rules and still be a Met Council points event. Does anyone know if that's possible? If not, I guess it may not count for the 2002 Met Council Autocross Series.

In the past, entrants have had a choice of running under SCCA rules or Met Council rules, depending on how they want the event counted toward year-end scoring. This may have been a function of co-sanctioning, which means that the Met Council club gets hosed financially.

Presumably, if the SCCA club is in the LOL Region, then it's a Met Council club. If they want to give entrants a choice as to which rules to run under, do they need two sets of classes, etc? What must they do to have the event be a Met Council points event?

Can anyone with some experience in this area help out here?

My presumption was that by stating that SCCA rules are to be used, that means that Met Council rules will not. I do not know how the choice thing would work. I have a call into the guy running the event and will reply to the list when I get an answer.

Thank you for your comments, Rex and Pat. I don't know if or how an event can be both an SCCA and Met Council event. The Met Council rules don't tell whether the event has to be run only under Met Council rules to qualify.

I've asked twice in two nights on this board for someone with knowledge of this to help out on this question; but no one who knows the answer has spoken up.

The SCCA Solo 2 Chair had asked me how it could work. I guess I'll tell him no one knows. So it looks like Eau Claire won't be a Met Council points event as far as I can tell.

Drew-
Give Wally Malhum a call, he's on the Met Council board and may be able to help.

Put a hold on my last message. I did talk to Wally and he gave me some information on how the event could be handled for Met Council points. I'll try to discuss it with SCCA today. I post some final word on this issue tonight.

I have tried repeatedly today to contact the SCCA person in charge of the Eau Claire event, but have been unsuccessful in reaching him. I have e-mailed the info on Met Council points events. If I get a response back, I'll post it.

The former SCCA LOL Solo II Chair confirmed that they had committed to run the Eau Claire event as a Met Council points event. However, he resigned a few months ago. His replacement just took over, and has said he knew nothing about Eau Claire being a Met Council points event. So apparently that fact was lost in the transition.

At this point, I cannot confirm that Eau Claire will or will not count as a Met Council points event. I'd suggest assuming that it will not be unless you hear otherwise. That's about all we can do at this point.
