no we are maxed at 10. If you go over 10 you need 16. I'm capping at 10. We could do a league right after it, but someone else will have to take charge of it.

Hey Sunday karters,

A good friend of mine who autocrossed years ago when he lived in Chicago is interested in joining our Sunday league.

He's not a member of MAC (track-days seduced him away from autox-ing), but he _is_ a very good driver: I went to the Acura HP school @ Mid Ohio w/ him, and have karted w/ him here & in Indiana.

Does anyone have a problem with him joining us?

Well the carts arent as fast as I thought but they are fun.No ill effects minimal arm pump and discomfort.Lot of seat time was worried about price vs seat time but there is plenty.Ended up last but not disappointed for never being there before or not being in a kart for about 9 years.

SmokingTires

price vs seat time

Barry pointed it out to me.

Autocross $35 for 6 Minutes = $5.80/Minute
Karting $28 for 17 minutes (roughly. 23 seconds laps, 45 laps) = $1.64/Minute

Good deal I'd say :)

I still like autocross more ;)

AlexL

AMEN to that! It has been a few years since I karted seriously down there, and I really like the new layout.

The racin' was clean, competitive & FUN! After such a long layoff in karting, I'm amazed I ended-up as well as I did in the main event. I guess a good start plus a strong kart, looking ahead and lots of luck worked out. We'll see about the next session when the first heats invert by points.

Hell for me I'll need cart 16 and to drop about 45 pounds and then learn how to drive.I might have a chance after that hehehe.Mike went by like I was standing still after he spun out. Also I hit terry pretty hard not sure how I was on brakes.

StevenMosley
11-07-2006, 10:10 AM
It was a goodtime. I dropped .8 seconds off my laptimes from 1st session to 2nd session.

1st race I drove a blocking line the whole first race to finish third with Dean trying for about 10 laps to pass. Dean ran the cleanest race I have ever witnessed.

2nd race I decided to just let Dean, Dave, and Chris pass me after about 2 laps because I was not keeping up and wanted to figure out my line. It helped my lap times a ton, but hurt my finish. I was not sure what happened with Dave and Dean, but was shocked when they threw Dave back into his position after his tangle in corner with Dean, but left Dean in the back.

I can't wait for the next run. I will probably forget everything by then. It was good to get some seat time. I figure that Sunday I had more seat time then my autox season combined.

DaveBahl
11-07-2006, 10:17 AM

So I scratched my back yesterday, and noticed I had some odd dry skin back there. I had my g/f look at it, and she confirmed that it was the same two spots that I had red spots from after last Karting event. The movement actually broke the skin enough to damage it for it to need to heal over!

I had mine (a Sparco, but they're all similar) on last night & it definitely cushioned the blow of getting T-boned (note to self: do not stop at the apex of a corner, facing perpendicular to the flow of traffic) and sliding sideways in to a wall.

But a sweatshirt would be a good idea too (it gets COLD in there, man!)

It's a bummer you had to get caught up in that. Every time I got alongside Barry, he'd turn into me to block. That time it just happened to be an apex that he stuffed me into rather than a straight section of wall. He's just lucky the race wasn't another five laps longer...

Had fun again. It was good fun.

Mike, I'm sorry I bumped you at the begining of the first race. I let you back in place, but found an opening in the crowd after that to get through the traffic.

Also 13 was not that bad. It didn't have brakes and was a little loose which makes things very interesting in traffic, but it had some power.

Agreed. And even the brakes weren't bad...when they worked. It seemed like there was a random 1-3sec wait between when you pushed the pedal and when they actually did something.

Chris was steadily catching up on me about .01sec or so a lap toward the end, mostly I think because of the brakes. I just couldn't get through the two big braking zones very well at all, but the kart wasn't bad otherwise.

Now, anyone who got stuck in #9 like I did on Thursday night (both races) knows what a SLOW kart is!

Ryan Bowers makes me sick. :p Last year I could just barely hang with him on a good run...but yesterday...wow...guy seems pert-near untouchable.

It's a bummer you had to get caught up in that. Every time I got alongside Barry, he'd turn into me to block. That time it just happened to be an apex that he stuffed me into rather than a straight section of wall. He's just lucky the race wasn't another five laps longer...

Alex, when was this? I passed you early in the main for the lead, and then got passed (cleanly) by about everyone else. No dirty pool intended - a few more laps and I'll be up to speed.

You pushed me sideways to pass in the second lap and then never went any faster. I got next to you several times between turns 3 and 4 and every time I did, you turned into me to keep me from going by. Giong into turn 1, I had an inside line on you and you turned into me hard and put me right into the inside wall, where I took direct hits to the side from two karts.

Ryan Bowers makes me sick. :p Last year I could just barely hang with him on a good run...but yesterday...wow...guy seems pert-near untouchable.

Thanks neal--last year, when i subed for zac, i was a little rusty from not karting for over a year. i guess with a whole summer of karting under my belt im doing better. just wish i could win outdoors like ive been winning at prokart.h

Yes there was no brakes on that cart I hit someone really hard the race before cause I hit pedal and nothing happened. After that I didnt take any chances but u were in middle of nothing until the end so u may not have noticed as much.Looking at my times between that and cart 18 my tmes were off by.6 sec a lap.So not that bad is really bad for me HeHeHe.

Now, anyone who got stuck in #9 like I did on Thursday night (both races) knows what a SLOW kart is!

Oh, hey... that's the kart I had in LCQ. Not that I can blame everything on the kart... I can't drive the stupid things worth a damn, either.

Either can I but I think I found something in that slow cart I'll have to if it works the next time we cart.(hehe)

Well what I thought would work really didn't help that much.Guys got back in groove and were rewarded with mid 21.sec lap times.I'm pretty sure I had fastest cart my first time out but couldn't do anything with it.Looks like I'm a high 22 or low 23 sec driver in those carts (hehe)

I kinda of screwed up your points Steve. I was running 2nd in the second heat qualifier when I tried to make a stupid move to pass Barry (Sorry about that Barry, I'm glad you hung on for the win) and got stuck in the wall.

Then in the LCQ I started up front but the kart I had wasn't as good as the last one so I was off the pace which led to me getting spun in the first turn (no hard feelings I was bound to get passed in that thing eventually).

But I had fun, so thanks for letting me run for you!

Hopefully I do better for Ryan on the 21st.

Congrats to Dave B. for holding off Ryan in the final. And congrats to Ryan for starting last and finishing 2nd. Awsome run!

I had #9 last sunday 1/06...what a pooch.....no acceleration and poor brakes.
I started #2 on the poll...i got bumped down to 6th..and I made it to 4th place....only because I was being super defensive and waited for the fights in front of me to end up in carnage and drive through it! :D I got in I think #22 the 2nd race and it was sooooo different it took me 1/2 the race to figure out how to drive the darn thing....

Let me know if anyone wants a sub...I will pay you (less than full price), and you will get "decent" results for points.

Yeah, #9 is the one I had when I got spun right away. They really need to service that kart. It's horrible. The brakes aren't poor anymore, they're nearly non-existant.

So, what actually happened in --the crash--? I heard bits and pieces of "steering wheel came off... ", "rubber to rubber", "kart contacting helmet".

Wish I had a camera. Pile of karts completely blocking the track is all I saw when Mark and I came onto the back stretch.

Glad Josh walked away under his own power. How big is the bruise?

Hey all,

Good news is I'm OK - limping but getting better. I haven't posted anything because 3 hours after the shunt (shemozzle?) I was on a plane headed to San Diego. Ever tried to go through airport security limping, w/ a bag of frozen peas in your bag? You get funny looks from the TSA, let me tell you.

Anyway, I was trying to work my way up from the back (made it to the LCQ by the skin of my teeth) and was closely following Chirs & Terry through the "esses" after the start/finish straight.

Exiting the right-hander, Chris' steering broke and the kart made a hard left into the outside wall. Terry crashed into him and the back of his kart came up. I was trying to get a run on him & Chris, thinking that they were dicing hard enough that I could squirt by, and by the time I realized that they had suddenly stopped, I couldn't completely avoid them.

Because the back of Terry's kart was up in the air, the nose of my kart fit neatly underneath. DOH! The back of Terry's kart rode-up a combination of my left arm and leg, chest, and the steering column, as me & the kart came to a swift halt. In the course of stopping, I think my head came forward and since I drive with my visor cracked-open, I think the edge visor caught the back of the kart, popping-off the little plastic piece that holds one side of the visor. Big thanks to Randy (I think) for finding that later-on; I put it back together & it works fine. There are no other impact marks on the helmet, so I don't think I actually hit my head.

When everything stopped, I was wedged under Terry's kart, with my knee stuck between the kart & the steering column, and the right-rear tire on my chest (thank goodness I was wearing driving gloves, sweatshirt, jeans AND the rib protector!) I was in a lot of pain, and Terry's engine was still running and was very loud and hot, and so my only (pretty panic'd) thought was to get the **** out of the kart and off the track.

I pushed up on Terry's kart and pulled my left leg out, then scrambled out of the kart & hopped onto the other side of the tire barrier.

I didn't think anything was broken, but my arm and leg sure were hurtin'. I couldn't move my leg into a position that didn't hurt, so I was just trying not to move it. When Tim & Mark & everyone came up, my leg was at kind of a wierd angle (and had black tire marks all over it), so I think people thought it was worse than it was. My hollering and carrying on didn't help either

After a few minutes of deep breaths, I could stand up & hobble off the track. I had a big scrape on my left forearm and a big scrape on the outside of my knee. My kneecap had hit the steering wheel so I started growing a real nice golf-ball sized knot on it (hence icing it with peas on the plane). I'm limping from the bruise on the outside left of my leg, not from any actual knee damage. Later that night I realized that my ribs on my left side had also taken a pretty big clunk, but thanks to the rib protector that was nowhere near as bad as it could have been (I cracked ribs karting back in Indiana a few years ago - that was seriously NOT fun)

Anyway, thanks to everyone who helped out & expressed concern! I'm sorry I wasn't able to stay in the race, 'cause it sure looked like some fun, competitive driving.

- Josh

Because the back of Terry's kart was up in the air, the nose of my kart fit neatly underneath. DOH!

Holy crap! That's *exactly* what happened to us in the Thurs night league back in the 2nd or 3rd week. Salah and someone were scrapping just a tiny bit in front of me and Katie. Salah ended up in the wall, with me slamming into him from behind, and Katie doing the "ProKart Plunge".

Fortunately in our case, Katie is small and I ended up balancing my kart nicely on the steering column of Katie's kart without hurting her. But I couldn't tell that at the time so I was really worried, sitting perched up there not sure what to do next! Fortunately I didn't try to get out, since the kart would probably have come crashing down on one side or the other. Worse, because of the way my kart was pitched forward, I initially couldn't even help but stand on the gas!! Fortunately, I was also standing on the brake. I didn't hear any screaming from below, so after I managed to get my foot off the gas I just stayed put until the ProKart guys lifted my kart off of hers and everyone walked away without a scratch.

Wierdest feeling for me though. I hit Salah very hard, obviously, but when Katie hit me there was no sharp impact at all. Just a swift-but-gentile ride upward, using the front fairing as a wedge. Bizzare.

Sounds like we got very lucky. I'm very sorry you didn't! Get well soon.

+1 GREAT TIME!!! Had an idea, if we ran a 200 lap event there BUT run it the other direction... all new brake zones, it'd be equal for all, the only thing would be the lights. Maybe if there was a caution it could be a full course caution... just an idea. We could see what Tim thought of that idea at that time. GREAT JOB TO EVERYONE!!!!!
