Drivers of cars like these (from this past Sunday) are determined to get in at least one more brisk country road tour BEFORE the snow flies. Mark your calendars for this Sunday boys and girls. We’ve found some GREAT roads around Stillwater, Osceola, and St. Croix Falls. The weather forecast looks lovely. Let's cheat winter for another weekend!

Please note that this is just an informal gathering among friends, not an official outing of any club. Everyone is required to drive responsibly at their own safe comfort level. No one will be pushed to drive fast. We always drive SLOWLY by pedestrians, houses, and farmers. Depending on the number of cars, we may split into two groups. At intersections each driver will wait for the car behind so no one gets lost. Bring FRS/GMRS radios if you have them. We will have some to loan out also.

Everyone please have a full tank of gas, an empty bladder, and be ready to leave the Machine Shed by 9:10am on Sunday.

If 9am is too early for you, drive up to Taylor’s Falls around noon. We’ll be stopping for lunch at Schoony’s Malt Shop & Pizzeria, 384 Bench Street, Taylors Falls, MN, before carving a few more corners.

Feel free to forward this info to any talented drivers you know, and respond if you plan on joining us.

Call me (612-237-1883) with any questions.

See you in the twisties this Sunday!

I think I might have my car all sorted out (close enough) for this one. Plus, what would make a better caboose then a diesel? :p

Another fabulous day! A total of 10 cars took to the twisties, including the guys who joined us at lunch. We started with 7 at the Machine Shed, including three Evos (mine, Matt’s, and Todd’s with his lovely wife Jeané navigating), but once again I had to leave mine parked because of a loose control arm that I haven’t had time to fix. I could drive it, but I didn’t want to push it. So I jumped in with T-turbo in the Nissan 300 ZX Twin Turbo. We nailed a few dozen off camber decreasing radius corners and admired the clear blue sky as we toured north of Hudson. Nearly collected a couple deer on Perch Lake Road. Glenn and his Murcielago couldn’t come out to play today, so we rolled on through Stillwater. Only one mechanical incident: A power steering fluid leak due to a broken hose connection. “Cypress X” had to peel off at Scandia. The famed Mayberry Road did him in. We hope to see him again soon. Oh, and Bandit had one broken wheel stud and another wheel missing a lug nut, but going 18 for 20 in the nut department didn’t seem to slow him down at all. Saw some more deer and LOTS of blaze orange hunters looking for said deer. A squirrel decided to chance it in front of the 300 ZX but lost. T-turbo was merciful and quick. After Osceola, a surprising bit of trailing throttle oversteer on Oak Drive had one of our group doing some agricultural driving, but the crew rallied behind him and we were back on track in no time.

Buckdaddy and his son Cole (not pictured) rendezvoused with us in beautiful downtown St. Croix Falls, then while motoring along River Road we came upon some friends: a black RSX and a red F-body. They had been waiting for us at Schoony’s but we were behind schedule.

After lunch the “guys with wives” contingent wimped out and had to leave but us five “die-hards” couldn’t resist hitting River Road again. I rode shotgun with Matt in the gray Evo IX MR as we retraced our steps on County S and followed the river on the Wisconsin side back down to Hudson. Thanks for the excellent ride Matt. Nice four-wheel drift and oversteer correction!

Thanks to everybody who came along today. If the tour area roads remain sand-free, we’ll be out there again next Sunday, December 3rd. 9:00am at the Machine Shed. I’ll start another thread shortly.

Yours in Speed,

- Tom
