View Full Version : Alignment Session

Last couple of years we did an informal garage alignment "workshop" at Paul Wiedners place. Looking for interest in doing this again this year. We held it right after Novice school in the past, but we will have to time it a little differently this year if we do it.

We have an instructor meeting after Novice School, and I am also making a trip to VF to recon the parking lot for course design after that. This will delay it a few hours at least.

Is there any interest in this? Paul, you still willing to host (and to let me sleep off the Corona's on your futon?)? Jeff "T.A.G."...can you make it again? I thought it was great having you there last year. If so, can we still pull it off at around 4 or 5 pm start time? Looking for input, thanks!

I'm not attending the Novice School, but I'll be helping out where needed and would love the opportunity to get in on this.

I better brush up on my trigonometry then!

Plans are still up in the air. I may go down to Valley Fair on Friday afternoon in order to not push this back so far. A lot depends on interest levels and what you all say, but I'm inclined to not want to drive down to VF and back up to Paul's on Saturday.

Let's hear from you if you're interested in this. Thanks!

I would be interested as well, but unfortunately MK IV VW's don't have any type of camber adjustment. But it might be fun to Sit and Chat and learn a little bit about Alignments.

I had a MK4 jetta (see avatar) and there is no camber adjustment w/o aftermarket camber plates.

Sorry, only leaking British cars in my garage :p
(and Miatas cuz they are the best "British" car ever made)

Seriously though I have a car in mind for the demo, the guy that owned it went to last years alignment session and then spent a day aligning his car using what he learned at the session. I think it'd be good to see how that turned out...

OK, now explain what that means to an old ****...

Pat,
I think we have enough interest, if you can nail down a time that works what with the instructor meeting and the VF needs I'll post a new thread with time and directions...

You can supposedly get another -.3* a side if you fiddle with the bolts. And there are toe adjustments to worry about. Also, we run big caster, so we get a little more dynamic camber.

The rear suspension was designed by squirrels and is pointless adjusting without use of potholes.

If I can make it, I will come.

Looks like I will be doing my Valleyfair inspection on Friday, so we will set a time on Saturday for this. Somewhere around 3 or so. Paul will make the final call. Thanks for the interest...it's always fun.

Get directions, a map, coordinates, whatever you can get. You don't want to try to follow him. There are those who are brilliant at leading people in traffic (Terry Pitts springs to mind). Paul is not one of those people.

What, no one else had trouble...

I will start a new thread with the alignment session info, my address and directions later tonite. I figure that'll be easier to see than a post buried in this thread where I'm just getting insulted anyway. ;)

Paul

BTW Phil, are you going to stop by and do the string "thang" again?

Yes. The tires purported to be the same tire, but the circumferences of each were different. We even checked the tire pressures to make sure they were the same.

Phil: "The pin should now be at the top of the 2x4 on both sides."
Shane: "Nope. It's off on this side."
Phil: "What? This never happens."

Well, that's what we thought, but we weren't hip enough to understand how it works for autocross. Just one more way we mortals are kept out of the enlightenment.

I put the notice regarding the Alignment Clinic on a new thread, I figured it'd be easier to see than being buried in this thread...
