Wow.....
That sounds like amazing fun, but for $1,850.00?
I think i'd rather spend a little bit more, and go to a real racing school where i could actually learn something too.

These manufacturer high performance driving events are geared more towards the CAR but come with pro instruction (at least all of the one's i've attended but of course race school is a different animal) cause they want you to drive properly and NOT wreck the car (which you'll be responsible for financially) :( :(

The events are a load of fun for the driving enthusiast but I'm with you on the $1850.....buy's a couple of set of tires, huh.
I wouldn't have even winked at that price when I was young but times have changed and being an old goat makes you watch your pennies a little more;)

Take care.

If you can't afford this (and I can't), you are not in the target market to buy one of these things. They give you a video, a jacket and some food, in an effort to get you into a club feeling about it. Sounds like a good marketing plan to me. It won't attract guys like me, and they don't want it to attract guys like me.

Dang! I was hoping you were going to say "being an old goat my pockets are bursting with disposable income". Brings back those feelings when I found out Santa Clause wasn't real. ;)

Oh and just an FYI, that money is "credited towards the purchase of our available carbon fiber upgrades for your very own new Ariel Atom". So if you are in the market for one that's not such a bad deal.

Now...if it was a credit toward the purchase of the car I could see that...but a credit toward accessories that are marked up 4....5....6 times cost....that's not such a good deal in my opinion.

I know they have to charge something....to keep it from turning into a circus with every Tom, Dick and Billybob from wanting to come in for a joy ride....but $150 seem more reasonable....and hold the jacket and she schmoozing.

Just my $0.02!

Just went and took a closer look....looks like a blast.....but how much time is "extensive track time"??? Sorry to sound like a negative nelly...but I'm a "specifics" kinda guy.

According to the email "at least two full hours of direct wheel time".

More than likely, this is being managed by a marketing firm like AMCI. I was given the opportunity to be a contracted instructor for AMCI when the Mercedes AMG Challenge came to Daytona Speedway.

Yeah...expensive. But a *really* freakin' good time. The cheapest car there was $65k, and I spend the majority of the day riding in or driving an SL-55 AMG on an autocross course. Except I got paid for it. ;)

$1850 is a LOT of money. I generally agree that it is over-priced...but I'm still contemplating it.

I got that e-mail too.
I checked the price, sighed, and clicked "archive"

my brother and I may be doing something similar to this sometime this summer with my dad and his friends. I think it was mostly ferrari CS's and stuff not atoms, and in colorado, but I'll be sure to take lots of nice pictures.

(I'm not paying, no way can i afford it)

How can I get that job? (I know- practice and seat time :( )

Actually, it was more a case of "who you know" than "what you know".

Spent the first day getting ready for the event. Driving $120k cars to the gas station, running around in forklifts, pushing Mika Hakkinen's ex-F1 car around the lot to the display area, etc. 2nd day was getting dizzy trying to tell rich customers what an "apex" is, or trying to beat the time Tommy Kendal set on his first run.

Gone are the days when I could tell myself that "What the heck, I'm young and could afford to make more money later", plus I have a wonderful, wonderful wife who blessed everything I wanted.

These are great marketing events and I actually acquired 2 vehicles as a result of these. My '93 RX7 (a few days before the '93 Miami Grand Prix) and a '07 RX-350 (on a GM sponsored event last fall at the horse track; the 350 was being compared to the SRX).
Gee, I just realized the vehicles both have an "RX" for the model designation. I'm glad there are NO Atom RX's:)

Anybody wanno go....I'm considering:evil:
