2008 Iowa Region Solo Schedule

April 6th - Greyhound Park Waterloo
April 13th - Adventureland Des Moines
May 4th - Greyhound Park Waterloo
May 18th - Greyhound Park Waterloo
June 1st - Greyhound Park Waterloo
June 8th - Iowa Speedway Newton
July 13th - Greyhound Park Waterloo - Iowa Challenge
August 3rd - Greyhound Park Waterloo
Sept 7th - Greyhound Park Waterloo
October 5th - Greyhound Park Waterloo

No pre registration required, registration and tech begin about 9 am, drivers meeting at 11 am, runs beginning immediately after.

Hope to see some of you guys down there this season, hopefully we're not scheduled on top of each other too much this year :)

How did the Adventureland event go last year?

The Adventureland lot is a little bigger than Midway but has lightpoles to contend with. We went down for the April event last year (the M3's inaugural autox). It was rainy, cold (upper 30's), with winds a tick below those of MOWOG #2. The freshly sealcoated lot was reduced to a big skidpad in those conditions. Launch in 2nd, short shift to 3rd.

They run a lot of FS American iron down there...they didn't have a fun time.

Fortunately, only 17 people showed, so 6 runs took under 2 hours. However, the Iowa crew is a really laid back bunch and we had a blast regardless of the conditions.

It's in Newton, which is 271 miles from my house in Saint Paul. Just east of Des Moines.

The Adventureland and Iowa Speedway events are a couple of the joint events that we and the DMVR are trying this year, those two will be hosted by DMVR.

I believe the current plan is to use the general parking lot at Iowa Speedway. Unfortunately it's new enough that I can't find an image on google maps but a facility map that shows parking can be found here...

Unfortunately, it looks like there will be schedule conflicts with some local club on all but the April dates. However, a couple of the dates are limited-space Test 'n Tunes, so it looks like there are at least 4 dates where you may get a decent influx of drivers.

Yeah, I think we're going to have to get together on the schedule stuff next year. After last years mess with the Iowa Region, MAC, and DMVR using so many of the same dates John Jacobs of DMVR and I worked pretty closely to put together schedules that avoided conflicts for at least 2 out of the 3 clubs. Our biggest problem is that the folks that run Greyhound Park keep asking us for schedules earlier and earlier every year. It's to the point now where we have to start guessing at dates in November and hope we don't land on anyone else or a Tour.

Yeah, it's new. It is apparently the excavated area east of the Newton airport.
