I'm considering heading down to Altoona next weekend if the weather is nice. Anyone else planning the trip?
I can't find the event details (start time) on their website. If I remember right from last year, they don't start until 11am. Can anyone confirm this?

Chris and I will be going, probably Amy too.
You should have been at Waterloo today.
I'll be there. I missed going to Waterloo today because I was dog-sitting.

It's being hosted by Des Moines Valley Region.

There's some talk about it on their message board too.
I'm not sure what the Iowa Region connection is, but there was some talk earlier in the year about them sharing some events.
I'm thinking about going! It'll be my first event!

The DMVR and us (IAR) are doing a series of joint events this year, each taking turns hosting events that are a points event for both regions. It gives both of us more options for lots and a split on the financials. We were planning on doing two each, Adventurland and IA Speedway for them, Greyhound Park and the Marshalltown kart track for us, but there's a big question mark on the future of the kart track right now.
But anyway, this is the first of the joint events and the first of the two they'll be hosting.
Snow and rain this weekend. I'm a little hesitant....

Do you pay at the event? We registered, but there was no option to pay (unlike the MAC events).

I was planning to go to Chicago this upcoming weekend but forecast calls for rain/snow mix. So much for that...
Hopefully weather will improve for Milwaukee SCCA #1

You pay at the registration table at the event. Pre registering just saves paper work and reserves your number.

I'm in for Sunday. Anybody want to meet up in Lakeville for the drive down? (I don't know the way)
What time are people leaving?

Straight down I35, take a left on I80. You'll drive right by it.
Forcast is partly cloudy and 49 degrees.

And last I checked, only a 10% chance of precipitation. :rockon

What's the drive time to it? About 5 hours or shorter like Waterloo?

Waterloo is about 3 hours give or take...

Should take around 4 hours maybe slightly less depending on how fast you drive (slightly less than to Sandpiper). I make the I35, I80 split in just over 3 from Farmington (staying under 80).

Geez, should I autocross in my SNOW TIRES?!!!!
Seriously, I think the Pilot Sport Cups would have no chance of warming up at those temperatures and wouldn't fare that well in standing water....
What tires are people bringing? Maybe I'll go with regular summer tires?

I'm running on Falkens.

Is everyone still going? It should be ok. No snow from the looks of it. I'll be there for sure, I just prefer see some other MAC members :)
If there is someone on the fence, I might be up for sharing my car with someone who would split gas.

Hey,
If anyone goes, take a look at any of the DM, EM "Locost" cars. I'm curious what tires they run these days....

I'm bailing. Everytime I check the forecast, it gets a little colder. High of 45 and 15mph winds...better than last year, but not worth the trek down to Iowa.
Hope the weather turns for all you that are going. Have fun and drive fast (at the event)!

Come on Tyler! You could co-drive the MR2! It's always cold for the first events but worth the practice when it comes to showing up at VF.

The weather was sunny and cold with a steady wind. Traction was available, you just had to go looking for it. The course was interesting, with some tight areas and a few large sweepers. The later afternoon runs were really pretty good, with the temperature around 47 degrees when I turned my last time.
I think it was just Mike, my-codriver, and myself that showed up. It was worth the trip.

Charles and his wife were down there in their S2k also.
Aside from the massive delays in the first heat (and the starters large gaps in start times), we did get 4 runs that were pretty dang fun! There was good grip even with the colder weather with only one sandy spot that built up as people tried both directions around the Pin Turn. The course was pretty long too. Fastest Mod car was still over a minute run.
I can't wait to see results. Maybe Aaron will post up his interesting adventure today...

Fences suck.
I learned that if you put a stiff enough front bar on an S2000 and don't bring your R-comps you can make it understeer like a Chevy Malibu....
By the way... the Iowa guys are still talking about a particular yellow RX-8 that "handed them their a**es" the other week.
I assured them that my wife and I would do nothing of the sort. :D

At least it looked like it would buff right out.
Any idea when results will be posted?

I wish I had control over that, but it was a DMVR hosted event and they apparently had some T&S issues again with the AXware software.

Fastest non-mod car out there (8th raw) and 14th PAX. I feel much better about spending my winter wrenching every spare minute.
Mike- nice job on the 7th in PAX.
My first autocross. Not much SM2 competition. Where's my trophy? ;)
Still kicking myself for not bringing better tires down. I wussed out. :(

Only if the price is right ;)
You'll have to do better than that though. My Khumos will be in this week. Take two seconds off!
I was informed after the event that this cone as well as another did not fall over or out of the box :D

With how cold it was, I'd doubt if R-comps were worth more eve 1 second at that event.
