Hi everyone,
Did you volunteer in the Timing trailer in 2007? Did you enjoy it, but get occasionally frustrated by errors or false trips?
Do you want to learn from the masters how to handle all manner of timing challenges, which will let you help make our 2008 events run even more smoothly than 2007? Did you take the 2007 PhD class and you want to refresh your Timing skills before the 2008 season starts?
If so, then the Timing "PhD" is for YOU!
Shane and I will be running a Timing "PhD" program during the classroom day of first Novice school, on April 26. We'll start at 9:00 AM (same time as the novice school) and will probably be done by noon (or whenever the tech line finishes-up).
We will go through basic system set-up & tear-down, and then spend a couple of hours helping you master some more complicated timing skills, including resolving problems like:
False start-line trips
False finish-line trips
"Forgotten" numbers (ie: a car's on the course but not in the computer)
Reports not printing correctly
and more...In 2008 we will try to have at least 1 "PhD" in the timing trailer at all times, so that if any glitches happen we will get them sorted out ASAP. I will work with event masters to make sure that at least 1 timing trailer slot is held for a PhD in each heat.
Because this session will cover advanced timing concepts, you'll get a lot more out of the class if you worked in the timing trailer at some point in the 2007 season. If you havn't worked in the trailer but you have autocrossed for a couple of years and you REALLY want to get your "PhD," please send me a PM & we'll talk.
FYI: If you want to try the software out on your own computer before the class, a 2-week demo is available from: http://www.axwaresystems.com/ax_demos.htm (we use the SCCA version) Note: file is 9 MB...
If you're interested (or want to recommend someone) please reply to this message or send me ( jberman ) a PM. I'll update this list as people are accepted.
We hope you can make it!!
