Hey, we have the enviable "problem" of actually maybe having too many instructors! Not really a problem in my book, but I thought I would throw this out there in case there were any of you that may have something come up and feel bad about not being able to make it. Or perhaps you would prefer to do the June school instead of this one.
I would like everyone there, because I think everyone has something great to offer, but just be aware that we have about 25 people signed up for about 17 cars per heat. I'm not asking for anyone to volunteer to opt out...just making sure you knew we have pretty good coverage.
So.....I'll leave it up to you. If you would prefer to not do this school, please shoot me a quick PM. Hopefully, not many will do this...don't want to go the other way! If we all show up, than it's just easier for everyone and makes it all the more fun!!
Please plan on being there at 8:00 am for a quick head count and get together. Thanks!!

I wanna be an instructor... of course I'd have to be good first. But I'm willing to make that sacrifice.

Ha! If you're really interested, make sure you let me know in person sometime this Spring. (I don't always remember who is who based on forum names and cars) It's not always about how good a driver you are, but it helps your cred no doubt. :)
Note to Instructors:
A couple have bailed, but I need to caution everyone: The weather isn't looking to balmy this weekend. PLEASE do not all decide that it's covered and all stay home if it's a little nasty out. I would rather have too many show up and have some people go home if we have too many.

Is there an instructor meeting on Saturday (after the class) this year?

I'll be there for sure. If there are still too many instructors, maybe I'll sit for a heat and shoot some pictures or something.

I think rather than drag everyone out on Saturday, we will just do it on Sunday morning. We'll all meet at 8:00 am by the timing truck or something. Maye go into the locker room if it's nasty out. Thanks!

I think that's a great idea....I think everyone would like to see pictures of their car, especially if they're new.

Just because you always drive poorly with me in the passenger seat doesn't mean everyone does. :p

Not totally true. I ended that tainted streak last year at Dakota, No? Oh wait a minute, I think I hit a cone on that run. Never mind.:(

So, looking at the weather, it might snow on Sunday, if it did snow, would the driving part still happen? I guess it probably depends on how much snow. So the real question is, is there a chance that I could use snow tires? Cause that would be a lot of fun too, it would be like the rally sno-drift.

Did the Novice Schools 6 years ago… Arrived at Dunwoody around 8:30 am… Did the class and then went outside around noon to tech the cars… Ha, rain, ah no big deal… During the drive home the rain started mixing with snow… Woke up Sunday morning to 7”-8” of snow… The roads were wet but fine to drive on… Arrived at Midway around 7:30… They plowed the lot but couldn’t get the thin layer of slush so we had to cancel… That was after Pat, Phil and a few others spent about ½ hour studying the lot and even taking a SLOW run on the lot… I really don’t see snow of that amount in the forecast… All fun talk, rain snow cold but do the best you can to put all that out of your mind, listen and learn… Really a good first event even if you’ve autoxed a couple times…
Cheers and sorry I’m going to miss out…

so there are going to be enough instructors to cover the entire run groups then? last year i think i remember some cars still waiting for instructors/helmets

huh my mac weather applet says 50 to 60 degrees and partly cloudy all weekend.
I dunno where theis uncertainty about snow is coming from, I must investigate further.

Mostly cloudy with a 40 percent chance of snow. Highs around 45.

It probably wont snow, I'm just used to the weather in the upper peninsula of Michigan where if it says there's a chance of snow, it snows. I forgot that in the cities, the forecast needs to say %100 snow for it to maybe snow.

On a slightly different topic:
I will not be able to get the ITR out of the garage this weekend, but there's going to be a Star Tribune guy that wants to ride with me during the instructor runs (that happens around lunch time, right?). He was originally going to sign up for the school, but then decided he didn't have enough time. Is there anyone who will have a car there that wouldn't mind sharing with me? I didn't want to depend on the use of a novice's car, especially if we are overstocked on instructors.
Lemme know,
Nikki

I have a snowmobile. All winter I would get hyped up when the forecast had snow in it. That was once a week. It snowed 3 times not including the last 2 storms.

I remember that snow morning. Bob Fogt and I spent a couple hours in the crap the night before setting rocks on the lot to pre-mark cone locations. Fun!
Don't let any snow or rain discourage anyone. We would have to have a couple inches on the ground Sunday morning to cancel. Cancelling is not good. If it snows during the day, we put the wipers on and drive through it! We should be able to eat lunch in the locker rooms, which are warm.
Please don't anyone let the weather discourage you. Students will get just as much out of the class rain or shine. The more instructors show up, the less we will all be in the weather. We can take a couple consecutive runs to reduce the car swapping a little too.
Students, just be ready for when you are working. Dress warm and dry, and it's all good! You will still have fun!!!

Probably not. Pat wants to limit non-student runs to instructors with students in the passenger seat. After all, this event is for the students.

Nope. Sorry...we have to clamp down a little. "We're not running an autocross kegger here." (Men in Black) Only approved instructors on the course, and only with students, and they should be talking their way through the run. Better not see anyone adjusting shocks or air pressure either ;) Our purpose in life is to ed-u-cate. :)
Edit: Steve beat me to it.

For both the Home Tour and the autocross school, I wish your "mac weather applet" knew what the heck it was talking about, but I fear the reality is more bleak. Wunderground suggests nippy but dry Saturday and nippy with a slight chance of light snow on Sunday.
I'll be happy at this point if it just does not rain.

interesting, weather.com is now saying rain/snow mix saturday, dry but cloudy/cool on sunday.

04-25-2008, 03:59 PM
well, some of your anti-rain dancing and concentrating really, really hard might be working. Weather underground NOW says mostly cloudy and temps ranging from 31-45 degrees on Saturday... and a 30% chance of percip. and temps ranging from 31-47 degrees on Sunday. It used to say Mon - Wed was going to rain/snow, now it says mostly cloudy. If we all clap our hands and believe, it may just miss us!
I wonder what weather underground will say in an hour or two?
There is a "blob" on the radar to the northwest. Let's all face that direction and blow really hard, maybe we can shift it's direction.

Weatherbug is claiming 30% chance of precip for Sunday with highs around 45. Tomorrow morning looks like the worst with a 40% chance of rain/snow. Who told them I put my summer tires on!!??

Pat - I sent you a PM
I still hope to be there, but there's a chance I might not be able to make it due to a neck injury. I'm hoping I feel better by Sunday. If I do, I'll be there rain or shine.
