Looking for volunteer corner workers to help run this event:
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2413/2465397129_0f42f9b6cc_b.jpg
Are you comfortable with fast cars in close proximity?
Do you like to wave flags, blow whistles, and talk on the radio?
Can you quickly reset orange cones?
Can I count on you to arrive by 8am and stay until 5pm?
This event cannot happen without the generous help of all-day corner workers. Helpers receive complimentary refreshments, and those who work all day get a free buffet lunch. Ask anyone who has worked at this event before. They will tell you that I take very good care of my corner workers. You guys are golden! Please post, PM, email, or call me if you are interested.
Count me in as usual, Tom!

the modern car registration is limited and already full. If you have a pre 1971?? (maybe 1970) car you want to run you probably still could.
The mailer was sent out awhile ago for registration via email.
Send a PM to the topic starter Tom Hazen to get on his emailing list.

Check with Tom Hazen, but I think they are considerably more relaxed and consider 20-year-old cars as vintage.

You are correct. Thanks

Actually vintage is 1979 or older. Modern is 1980 or newer. As of this writing I have three spots available for modern cars at the Healey Hillclimb. The Paul Weidner Memoral Speed Run at Amery Airport is sold out for modern cars. Still LOTS of room at both events for vintage cars, racing karts, and supercars.
But I started this thread because I need CORNER WORKERS! MAC people know how to work corners. Please help me out. I will take great care of you!

Thanks Jeff! I took my driver's license road test in a "Champagne Edition" Scirocco back in the dark ages. Still one of my favorite cars.

I am registered for this event (late model spot) and it looks as though I cannot attend. Shoot me an email if you'd like to purchase my spot.
thanks.

Thanks Andres! Please PM me with your current email and phone. I'm pretty sure I have them already, but just to be sure. Then I'll send more details as the date approaches.

You are welcome to help out, and I appreciate the offer, but because the Afton Alps site is so huge, I don't rely on drivers to work corners like at MAC events. We tried it a few years ago and it just took too much time for drivers to drive their cars back down the hill, park them, then walk all the way back to work a corner. The area is too spread out and there is no safe parking near the course. Also, there's only one way in and out of the parking area, and that road IS the course, so drivers have to wait at the top of the hill until that run group is finished and the course is "cold" before they can drive back down to the parking area. Hillclimbs have many more logistical challenges than autocrosses!
So I need all-day dedicated corner workers who aren't driving. They get free refreshments and free lunch during the noon break. It's really more fun than work. Tell your friends!
By the way, here's a link to a video from last year's hillclimb:

If you need additional motivation, know that skaters from the Minnesota RollerGirls will be greeting drivers, workers, and spectators as they enter the Afton Alps complex, then the brave ones (wait...they're all brave and can kick your a$$) will be getting rides in cars all day.
The safety committee is still deciding whether we'll let them "skeech" on the back bumpers with skates on. :-D

OK, I figured out why I wrote this. I was thinking of THIS event:
===
MAY 17 Inter-Marque Spring Kick-Off 10:00 a.m. car show,
1:00 p.m. banquet. Radisson Plymouth, Plymouth, Minnesota.
130 Vintage foreign motorcars last year. This year cars
and bikes 1987 and older are invited. Car show, banquet,
trophies, fun times. On Saturday this year. Come to show,
cometo view, come to eat, just come. See flyer on page

Thanks to everyone who contacted me and signed up to be a volunteer at the hillclimb this coming weekend. Looks like we have a crew!
By the way, even though modern car advance registration has been sold out for several weeks, I'm predicting (but not guaranteeing) that I will have at least five to ten openings for modern cars to register at Afton Alps this Saturday, June 14th (rain date Sunday, June 15th). Currently I have 18 open spots, and although I have to give vintage cars (1979 or older) first dibs, I'm almost positive that they will not fill the roster.
So if you're interested in trying your skill against the hill, send me your email so I can put you on the Sat/Sun notification list. I'll be making the Saturday or Sunday weather-dependent decision by 5pm Friday. Then show up at Afton by 7:30 on the morning of the event to sign up. The flier with all the info is in the first post of this thread. Thanks again!

Hope they were easy to install.
I just can't do it all. Chose the novice school over the hillclimb. First hillclimb I have missed. Maybe I can make up for it next year.
Thanks to all the volunteers! The event was great, your time and work was certainly appreciated by all!

It was important to me. I had to make a choice for scheduling, and your events went three-for-three for conflicts with me this year. Have you considered checking in with Met Council on scheduling?

Have you considered checking in with Met Council on scheduling?
Try it another way: Has the Met Council considered checking with the Healey Club? We usually book the following year's events, including the Amery airport runs, during our annual planning meeting in early December. When does the Met Council set its schedule? Occasionally we have to make slight changes once we know the hillclimb date. I book the hillclimb in early January, as soon as Afton will open their scheduling book to me. They schedule wedding receptions almost every weekend during the non-ski season. They make TONS more money on receptions than they do on the hillclimb, so they won't even consider giving me a date until the six-month-advance reception booking window has passed. Every year I wait and hope they will have holes in their schedule. I have to take what I can get from them. I don't have the luxury of working around other clubs' schedules.
Of course the number of weekends during the driving season is limited, and events will inevitably conflict. I try to get my dates published far and wide as soon as I lock them in. I guessing most Met Council board members are already on my "speed guy" emailing list or know someone who is.
